I have no idea what this list-maker is smoking. I showed some RL friends this scene a couple years back, and they were in tears at how painfully bad and awkward it was. Maybe it was impressive back when we were five, but today? yuck

Hey now, my point was "other people (like critics) agree with me," not "critics agree with me, therefore my position is 100% bulletproof." Don't misquote me!

it's definitely a scene where if you hear about it before seeing it, it lessens the impact. Luckily I saw it for myself long before I even had the internet so it remains one of my favorite scenes ever.
Amazing scene. Of course, my first exposure to it at all was at the Final Fantasy Distant Worlds concert when it came to Seattle, and so I heard the live version of the scene there, sung in English by three amazing Seattle opera singers, and with a full orchestra behind it (while the scene played on the screen in the background, of course). Best way to first hear about a scene ever.
So yeah, one of my favorite scenes in any video game.
From: WazzupGenius00 | #003 Yeah, I've honestly never understood why people have such a hard-on for this scene. It sucks.
Actually "sucks" may be a bit harsh, but it really wasn't anything good.
I had no idea anyone cared about it at all before this topic.

itt: dumb people not realizing they're playing a 1994 game
It shouldn't matter that it's a 1994 game. I like lots of vg music from games published in 1994 or earlier. In fact, I think FF6's soundtrack is pretty solid overall. But I don't care for the opera song in particular.

You certainly acted like the latter, not the former!

Incidentally, I went to this same exact concert, and I still hate this scene. I don't like the song at all, it's cheesy as hell, and when people actually sing the lyrics it just becomes ridiculous. It was pretty cool of them to do it like that with opera singers and all, but I still hate the song.
It doesn't have a remake. It has a (barely) "enhanced port" to a last gen portable. Which was actually a downgrade in sound quality.
