Was without.

I didnt like the idea of fighting an actual mask. The second form was way too simple as well. I just expected a better boss overall.

end spoilers

As for the water dungeon. I don't like the slow pace it offered. Lots of backtracking, and lots of menu use. I stated in the other topic i didn't enjoy the stone tower much either, but that was mainly because I had a power outage and had to completely start over again. Also, I really hated the elligy song(so slow and used consecutively every time..) and massive menu swapping in the game.

As for things I liked about MM. I like the atmosphere more due to characters being more lively. The side quests were fun. Transportation system was better with bunny hood and song of soaring. I enjoyed the mask system. It offered nice gameplay changes. The masks had nice designs, and overall unique powers to each other. I also liked the change from the traditional zelda storyline. Probably some more.

The people who like Majora's Mask are trying too hard to be different. It has some great concepts, but the execution is ass. You can have good dungeons but ruin them with stupid stuff. Ocarina of Time probably feels empty and void to people who just recently played through the game. Back then, it was the largest, most intriguing thing in gaming. Even today I'm not bored with it, because it's really not that huge when compared with other games. You know what overworld feels empty? Twilight Princess. If you want to talk about a bad game, talk about that game. Majora's is better than that for sure. Majora's isn't necessarily a bad game either, it's just not very well made.

Twilight Princess a bad game hahaha. You're clearly one of those people who looks at Ocarina of Time with awfully rose-colored spectacles.

I went into Twilight Princess expecting a bad game, and went into Ocarina of Time expecting the best game ever. Guess which one I prefer now.

And no I'm not a Zelda drone. Regardless of whatever my username is, I'd vote for the likes of Celes Chere and Sarah Kerrigan over Link (I'd sooner consider voting for Ada Wong over Link than I would voting for Link over Mario or Samus now, too). I just find Link to be boring nowadays, especially the Ocarina of Time incarnation.

MM is just better than OOT in basically every aspect.
It honestly boggles my mind how people can prefer OOT. Yes, it has more dungeons, but only 2 of its dungeons are actually good (Spirit and Forest), then you have crap like the 3 child dungeons and Bottom of the Well, and a bunch of mediocre-decent stuff.

MM only has 4 dungeons, but other than Woodfall (which is still better than half of OOT's dungeons), they range from "great" to "best in the series."

Quality over quantity, really.

Add a bunch of sidequests, good NPCs, great atmosphere, and you have a great game. The save system does admittedly suck, I'll concede that point. I had a power outage while I was playing... FFFFFF

And before you say that I can't appreciate older games, let it be remembered that I prefer A Link to the Past to all four of them, and pretty easily at that. It's just the N64 era I find overrated, although with blind playthroughs of Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid waiting in the wings for me, who knows?

that's the bulk of the game. if the dungeons are bad, it drags the whole thing down pretty hard. Obviously the side quest stuff, the characters, the world are the best in the series, but the dungeons mostly just feel like work that you just have to get through to get to the good stuff again... and that kind of sucks.

Right, this is why OoT and TP and those can't touch MM. Those games are just dungeons.

MM is way more complete and it's just so much more satisfying to play. The fact is that MM could've been great without any dungeons at all. There's just so much depth and quality in the overworld, and then there's 4 pretty great dungeons as well. It's the same reason Okami is better than any Zelda game.

DA2 sidequests definitely had resolutions at the end which made you question your judgement calls. Yeah, it might have involved doing a lot of the same things, but you can't say they didn't have effects on the game.

In MM you can see your benefits right away, while in DA2 you often have to wait until a time skip to see what's changed.

Just noticed this.

Of course it's popular, I mean WW has Cel Shading, and TP, while a good game with good dungeons, gets a lot of hate for simply not being as good as promised. Then when you take out NES zeldas (which most people consider to be the weakest) you're left with the nostalgiacs (lttp), the mainstreamers (oot) and the other option (mm)

I like when nintendo follows the philosophy that they did with Majora's Mask and then again with Metroid Prime 2 and Mario Galaxy 2. That being they're already under the assumption played the game that came before that so they're not going to ease you into the experience this time. The game is challenging from the beginning and the difficulty continues to increase as the game goes on past what the prior game's difficulty was.

nintendo makes good direct sequels. majora's mask and link's awakening are also good examples of another thing with zelda which is that they're more comfortable discarding the series' trite formula for a sequel and just taking link's world and completely turning it upside down. as a result I would say that both games have a fantasy aura about them that none of the other games do, the other games are carefully refined to fit into a mold but I think the zelda series has been at it's best when they just go crazy and create whatever they like. termina and koholint are the best locales the series has featured IMO, above any incarnation of hyrule, I'd like to see more imaginative worlds like that more often

Wind Wakers cel shaded graphics were not only initially met with disdain because of the cartoonish look, but because people wanted to see some huge "Link in the next generation" thing. My theory is that if TP came out in place of WW, tp would be much more well received. I mean, I'd be hard pressed to find the majority of people actually prefer WWs graphics over another 3d zeldas.

I just didn't find MM fun. Like I think the world is amazing, the NPCs are all much more interesting than just about any other game has managed, the time gimmick is really neat from a story perspective, but the game just wasn't fun to play. I found it to be a chore. With a game as complicated as MM is, I don't like having to worry about a time limit on top of things. Playing the game just stresses me out and that's not fun. I like the old Zelda games, built around the joy of discovering secrets at your own pace, and that's the kind of formula I want in the 3D Zeldas as well.

This theory is completely wrong. Most people agree that Wind Waker HAD to be the way it is because of the world (lol water), but do you honestly think OOT or MM, or even TP be as popular if it had the same graphics as WW? Yeah, the opposite is probably true of WW, but then again (lol water).
