And that's why you ask for half upfront and bolt.

In all seriousness taking candy from sketchy strangers is a bad idea.

As a kid, I was always told not to get into cars with strangers. Now I have two apps on the magic rectangle in my pocket that literally summons strangers from the internet to drive me places.

My friend has this large brown work van.

One day, I taped a "free candy" sign onto it. He drove around for 4 hours before he noticed. Lol

I think most of us as kids were taught by our parents to never get into a vehicle with someone we didn't know. In fact as a kid me and my friends always traveled together in a group just in case something happened because there's strength in numbers.

Which is ironic, because statistically most child abductions are committed by someone the child knows.

There are at least a few psychological theories that years worth of constantly telling children that everyone they meet is secretly a monster in disguise and teaching them to never trust anyone has actually eroded some of our empathy and our ability to relate to others as adults.

A nice lady offered me candy when I checked in at a provincial park for a week of hiking about a month ago. I accepted and those peppermints were delicious.

Strangers really do have the best candy.

Most crimes against you are commited by somebody you know.

Like 90% sure that depends on the time of crime and in many cases it's somebody who they don't know well. For instance, the most common form of rape is date rape. How well do people typically know people with whom they either started dating or haven't dated long? They might not be a nameless stranger, but they're barely an acquaintance. Conversely, 95% of pickpocket victims never met their thief. Most burglaries are committed by unknown persons. Mass shooters are often notoriously indiscriminate, although in some school shootings the shooter might have been known by name to his victims.

And most of the reason why you're more likely to be victimized by somebody you know (or kinda know) is because you're less likely to trust strangers or put yourself into dangerous situations.

Statistically speaking, most of the reason why you're more likely to be victimized by somebody you know is because you spend more time with individuals you know than you do with individuals you don't.
