In their first bout, I didn't click with Geofront which resulted in an easy Credits vote. Having clicked with Geofront since.... I am siding with Credits again as it's still slightly better.

The whole song is great fun and reminds me heavily of stuff like Local58, The Phenomenon, and the EAS creepypasta section of youtube; though obviously not as focused on the creepy aspect of EAS/automated message fuckery.

Really? Only two matches today? Because I thought in the early rounds we had more.

Ah, well, in a contest this big, sometimes you'll get a day in Round 1 with all lopsided matches. Hopefully by the time we get close to the retirement round all the fodder will be out. Though honestly I kind of like Credits. For me personally, that second match actually is a kind of close one, but realistically, Credits is much too weird to make a deep run.

It feels like every day I'm alternating between liking Burning Force Medley and feeling completely indifferent about it. 2DMB is either my favorite or second favorite retiree this year.

Conversely, Credits is my least favorite retiree (although the little jazz interlude starting right before the 3 minute mark is really cool). Geofront was something I was completely neutral towards on my first listen, but I like it more now.

Well, this is awkward, maybe. a rematch, I was afraid this would happen (and figured there would be a pretty high chance of it Oh Well) and here I am, flipping my vote on it. Was already a close match for me, and this comes at a combination of both Geofront4 working more for me & Credits working less for me in the current moment. I feel like this would feel cooler if I swapped my vote from the previous winner to the previous loser for the good ol underdog situation but that ain't really the case here oh well. Also if match 1 goes my way here then division B is just full hecked for me.

In some bizarre counter to GameBop, I'm flipping too, in the opposite direction. His old vote is my new vote. My old vote is his new vote. Weird!

I actually came close to flipping on both. I've gained a lot of enthusiasm for Second Dark Matter Battle over the past few days, but I managed to subsequently renew my appreciation of Burning Force Medley while writing this post.

I'm most surprised to find myself voting against my #1 most compatible best friend Toxtricity's favourite song ever for the first time in the contest, though. Before even realising it was related to today's match, I'd been listening to the short version of Credits throughout the day. I hadn't seen the video for it before, and the synchronised ASCII visuals opened my ears to the finer details of the song's sampling and soundscape. Subsequently watching Frums' Funny Rave set probably sealed the deal. Dungeon - Geofront 4 is still a great song, and I suspect I'll vote for whatever wins match 2 over whatever wins match 1 anyway.

I can't say for sure if I'll feel the same way in a week, or even tomorrow, but this vote reflects my tastes right now. When I started voting in this contest, I definitely underestimated the extent to which my valuation of the songs would shift over time as I listen to them over, and over, and over again. It's been a learning experience!

These songs both have very strong openings, but I'm less into the rest of them. SDMB has a higher high, but it lasts for less time than Burning Force Medley's high, and also its lows are lower for me. These songs are next to each other in my rankings, but it's an easy choice for me.

I didn't think about this before, but this is the match between my top 2 remaining favorites (the second match). I'd love to vote for Credits against anything else, but it's tough here. And I think Credits is probably the underdog so it would be cool to see it win too, but I can't vote that way. It's basically my #1 vs #2 so I have to side with #1.

favourite part:
-burning force medley: when the guitar solo starts. (not a lot of times you'll hear me say that!) basically this is where the track really picks it up a notch for me. that rhythmic shift at 1:21 is especially cool.
-second dark matter battle: I like the grandeur it exhibits at the beginning of the track and the last section before the loop, but there are also specific sections like the progression at 0:28 that jump out a bit as really neat moments.
-credits: the electric piano segments, with light glitch elements and... the weather. it still kinda surprises me how calming I find those sections.
-geofront 4: the amazingly disorienting 1:08. I don't think this works as well without much of the rest of the track letting me know what it sounds like with a structured beat. this way, it feels almost like a reveal.
