It kinda feels like that, with the protesters and all that.

I've seen people in my town returning back to the gyms, being one example.

I can understand that people are getting really tired of this corona shit and want to resume their normal lives again.

It's starting to get really tiresome to only hear about corona virus this and Covid-19 that in the news.

Yeah it's tiring but we can't give up now.

Around here giving up isn't really an option unless you want to go hang out in the grocery store. Pretty much nothing else with an 'inside' is open.

Is it really? Being stuck inside for months is comparable to a short prison sentence. The weather is warming and people want to move on. Besides, if you can somehow ensure the members of a group aren't stick (a family or something) then you can't catch anything from merely being outside.

The media is capitalizing on the hype. Like I've said before it's a time for caution, not full out panic lockdowns. By all means stay home if you want. Don't want to? Whatever.

Yeah whatever. Who cares if you got the disease and you're asymptomatic and spread it to vulnerable people who had to go out and get groceries and kill them? This is totally the time to be going outside when you don't have to, going out just cuz you want to despite the PANDEMIC going on.

How are people returning to gyms if gyms are forced closed by the state? The bigger issue would be gyms reopening because that's the gatekeeper.

I live in Sweden where most stuff are still open.

Maybe it's because I live in a small town far away from all the bigger cities, but it's relatively calm over here.
It's pretty much only the elderly homes that are the most affected by the virus.

I'm surprised they're open. The gyms in town are closed for me. As with most things. Even the one on base. I'm sure people would be going there if they were open. But they literally can't because they're closed... Either way, they're not many places to go. I did hear about people going to the grocery store to hang out with friends, though...

I mean, they're not completely stuck inside everywhere. Most places do allow people to leave for work and essentials. A good amount even allow going outside for walking dogs and exercise. Not the most enjoyable activities. But whatever...

But do you want to go out. Not only that, but you've probably grown use to it. Most people haven't. And would probably rather not, tbh. For the past how many years (probably more than 6), they've been use to going outside and doing whatever. And not being stuck inside. And now, they can barely get outside to do anything other than work (if they still have a job to go to) or to get essentials (which probably isn't the most fun)...

I've been seeing it at work, they want some outdoor things to do. And while it's not the same as jail, with many stores or public places being closed there isn't tons to do. Outdoor activities should be reopened. The inside stuff on a case by case basis.

It depends on what yo mean outdoor. Lots of parks with a lot of land seem to be open for walking around. And I haven't really seen the lakes or anything close door. Not as many people fishing, but I've seen a few. Which is fine since they are pretty far from everyone else. And you can still play outside in someone's backyard, assuming it's big enough...

Just some people. Was at the grocery store at 6am for Senior Hour, to shop for myself and an elderly neighbor, pretty much all seniors there, mostly wearing masks. Was checking out (cashier now surrounded by plexiglas shields), and crowded by two women, masks dangling from their hands, shoving to load the checkout counter behind me, can't wait for me to finish, can't maintain social (or even ordinary polite) distance, obviously not seniors, obviously more than 1 person per cart.

To be fair, the media has been lying like cheap rag rugs. A month ago, painter's dust masks were no good, had to have surgical masks, now, dust masks are better. Two weeks ago, sunlight doesn't have enough UV to kill the virus, now, 3 minutes of sunlight kills the virus. Previously, social distancing was working to slow the spread of the virus, now, random testing of blood of people in low risk/low exposure communities, 30% already have coronavirus antibodies. Then, we have the aircraft carrier Roosevelt, 4800 crew working in close proximity, only 600 test positive, most are asymptomatic, and only 8 hospitalized.

Is there any truth to what we are being told, or is it all meaningless babble and panicmongering? Is the coronavirus actually that much worse than ordinary seasonal flu? Does social distancing slow the spread of the virus, or just delay people developing immunity?

Tbf, I dont think they were lying about that. I heard that the mask doesnt stop you from getting the virus. But helps to reduce the spreading by people wearing the mask. So, if thats the case, they were right about the mask not helping people to not catch it. They are trying to slow/stop the spread of it...

For the other stuff, they are still trying to learn about the virus. So, mistakes are bound to happen...

This is the stupidest thing I see often repeated. Imprisoned. In the comfort of your own home. Fridge full of food. A near infinite amount of media to freely consume. No threats of violence daily from horrible people.

Man, if a few months quarantine at home is your idea of a bid in prison, never end up in actual prison. You'll be nostalgic for the days when you could drop the soap in safety.

It doesn't matter that the number of people sick seems low. No Healthcare system in the world is designed to handle the number of people being hospitalized. And that's the part that's not visible depending on your location, and it's hard to really grasp how bad it is if you don't spend enough time in hospitals, especially hospitals in urban areas with high population density, though even rural areas are spread thin just because they have way less resources. It's scary how often I hear sirens and see ambulances riding down my street. A large part of my family are nurses and doctors as well. Yes, if we all went out most of us would be fine and recover, but why risk having large swaths of the population become infected? Let's say the death rate for this illness is 1%. 1% of 1 million is 10k people. Now what happens when 10 million get sick? 20? And the idea that people without issues won't suffer is not accurate. Yes those with issues are more likely to suffer but there is not enough understanding of this virus to accurately make that statement. My cousin had a very athletic healthy 30 year old with no preexisting conditions pass away from this. No one knows why some people get it more severely than others. It's easy to ignore it if it hasn't affected you personally, but why take that risk if we don't have to?

Except, you know, with free access to entertainment, significantly better living conditions, and no restrictions on your ability to communicate with friends and family. To say nothing of the fact that you can actually go outside, just not in groups or to places that concentrate people. Which maybe sort of kind of makes it not remotely comparable to prison in the slightest. Get over yourself, you insufferable drama queen.

Anything really. At work it's gardening or landscaping. Beaches, hiking trails, parks, there's a ton of room. If you can reasonably doubt friends are carriers then what's wrong with some small team sports? You can't get sick if nobody has it. I get that indoor recreation probably isn't ready for large crowds so that'll come in due time.

That's what made this such a circus. Nobody really knew at the start. Every day something changed. If you're like me and got sick of hearing the same old crap you might miss the part about masks or UV. Then some people KEEP panicking because the media doesn't know what to say or believe. Given everything I'd say we overreacted a little but understand that places rather be safe than sorry. You just didn't know for sure.

That implies they have it. If you take some friends who have been sitting home for a couple weeks and would very unlikely be carrying anything, then what's the harm? It's a flu, not nuclear fallout. The environment is mostly safe and everyone is eager for spring activities.

In other words go hang out with people you trust rather than do something with large groups of random people.

If you can find people that have actually not gone anywhere (or spent time with somebody that has) for a couple weeks, sure, but that's pretty unusual. People need groceries and other essential supplies, after all, to say nothing of the risk of transmission associated with touching any common surface in an apartment or condo building (unless, again, you can guarantee nobody in your building has gone anywhere, but good luck with that).

DPsx7 posted...
What else are you going to do - act like nothing will be safe ever again?

No. Just continue to follow recommendations from public health officials until such a time as those recommendations are lifted, a decision that will be made based on transmission rates dropping to acceptable levels and the availability of treatment/preventative options. There's no reason to think it'll never be safe again, just that it's not safe yet.
