Skyclad Observer Match 1: Pffft. I only had to look at both songs' titles to know the winner. I didn't even have to check to make sure, but I still did (mainly for this write-up sake and the rankings). Nice time-save. This is actually the first time this happens to me in this contest (yes, it took me 50 days for that). So this is the part that I fear; I've almost always lost a song I've cared about past Round 2, and Passing Through the Forest doesn't seem to be a weak song. Let's just wait and see... Match 2: Second match is closer, but still clear. I'm not a huge fan of Steins;Gate's main theme, but it's pretty solid nonetheless. Full Steam is kind of a fun/funny song for a beat-'em-up (maybe because it reminds me of Bury My Shell at Wounded Knee, now that I think about it), but other than that it's not particularly amazing. vs. 4. Threads of Fate - Passing Through the Forest (9.5) (over The Dance of the Spheares) Dialga's Fight to the Finish is a lovely song, very climactic but still almost soothing. My goodness, that flute sample is shrill though. Probably the song's biggest detriment. I accidentally opened this song in two tabs at once and it's still a good experience somehow. That should be a litmus test for good music - "Does it hold up if I open it in two tabs?" Anyway, Passing Through the Forest is amazing. I wouldn't have thought a song could worldbuild, but this song does. and 15. Rivals of Aether - Full Steam VENGEANCE!! (7.5) (over Girl, The Ultimate Experience) vs. 42. Steins;Gate - Skyclad Observer (5) (for Melody of Aqua) Full Steam CAPS is like diet indie fauxtro retraux - fun, but insubstantial. It's fun enough to earn a 7.5, but it doesn't really linger with me as soon as it ends (which, given the link provided, is a long time). Steins;Gate - Skyclad Observer MATCH 1 Really, really close match here. I must have listened to these two songs like ten times each trying to decide which one I like more. I'm sort of going with a gut feeling right now, but I'm thinking that I like Passing Through the Forest more, so I'm going against my favorites bracket and putting this above Dialga's Fight to the Finish. Both are really nice and pretty and I like both songs a lot, which is why this is so close for me. I'm fine with either song advancing here. I could probably see myself voting along with my favorites bracket on another day. MATCH 2 This match is less close, so it's much easier for me to decide here. I do like both songs in this match as well, but "anime-sounding music," for lack of a better term, fits better with my tastes, so Skyclad Observer earns my vote here (yes, I know it's the opening to the visual novel and not the anime). Skyclad Observer > Passing Through the Forest > Dialga's Fight to the Finish! > Full Steam VENGEANCE!! All songs here are pretty good today.
