Bought a Dreamcast online back in the day and it wasn't working so the company sent a 2nd one free of charge. It turned out that the first one just had a faulty cord so I ended up with two working consoles.

My first PS3's motherboard broke so I had to buy a new one. Also had 2 DS Lites since the first one had the top screen suffer the hinge crack and actually broke in two. (The 2nd one also has a hinge crack and the top screen no longer works. I bought a 3DS the week it finally failed.)

I moved into an apartment that left a Gamecube behind when I already owned one.

Besides that, just 3DS upgrades.

Not a single time have I concurrently owned two of the same system.

I did replace my Xbox 360 when my original model red-ringed a second time. But it's like replacing a dead phone, so I don't count it.

I haven't even upgraded my Nintendo handhelds.

There are a few systems I've bought special editions for. Usually a nice Pokemon edition will get me to double dip.

Game Boy Color: regular and Pikachu/Pichu edition
N64: regular and Pikachu edition
Game Cube: regular black and Pokemon XD edition
Game Boy Advance SP: NES edition and Pikachu edition
3DS: Pikachu edition, Charizard edition, and Xerneas/Yveltal red edition

And then I had a few PS1s because they had a tendency to stop reading discs.

No, unless you count my partner and I both owning copies of the same portable. I've been pretty lucky with my systems holding up (never had one die on me), and I find most of the upgrades to portables not worth the money (GBA -> GBA SP might be, dat backlight, but I didn't actually buy an original GBA myself).
