2-4 does really well and will be the top case to aim for. We also got a lot of new voters! Be sure to rate the previous cases!

Summary:

This flashback case features Mia as a young lawyer in Marvin Grossberg's law firm. Her defendant? Phoenix Wright himself, three years before the first game.

Main Characters: Mia Fey, Marvin Grossberg, Phoenix Wright, Winston Payne, The Judge
Other Characters: Doug Swallow, Dahlia Hawthorne

My rating: 8.5/10. I really love this case. It raised the bar on Case 1s and doesnt even really feel like a tutorial. Mia and Phoenix are both fun and Dahlia is great, but Payne is the real star. Hes a whatever character who truly becomes a big part of the case. His breakdown is actually one of my favorites in the series.

Cant remember how good the mystery is off hand, but loved seeing all of the young characters and the introduction of Dahlia

Mia vs. Dahlia is great, although the fact that Dahlia just gives up at the end is anticlimactic. Cocky Payne is great, which makes his breakdown even better. Phoenix is pretty annoying in this case though. This is the worst version of the character.

In the scope of T&T, it does important stuff and maybe deserves higher, but as a case on its own, young Phoenix may as well be random NPC bozo for how ridiculous he is here. Shout-out for getting to play young Mia, though.

One of the better tutorial cases (obviously)!

Man, I need to replay PLvPW, AAI2, SoJ, and GAA2 if I want a more confident rating when we get to those...

That's like 100 hours of gameplay. I can do it in 10 days, yes. (okay, maybe I won't do that)

I was confused by which game was second and actually played this and a tiny bit of 3-2 until it became clear there were multiple characters I was supposed to know. (Funny enough, I didn't remember Adrian's name and did not recognize her as the same character through the entirety of 2-4 so I was effectively still unspoiled.)

I did not mind replaying this case. God Phoenix sucks so much here though.

Was the best starter case until the next game came out. And then AAI2.

But it's still 3rd place among starter cases to this day for me!

I love T&T as much as everyone else but I always thought this case was overrated. Still better than the previous tutorial cases, but I really don't like young Phoenix at all and Dahlia's best moments come later.

Just so thoroughly enjoyable that it doesn't matter so much to me that the murder mystery is very simple. Playing as Mia is a delight, Dahlia is great, and 'Rookie Crusher' Payne is easily Payne's finest moment. The moment when Mia owns Payne so hard that his hair flies off is one of the funniest moments in the series. This case just makes me happy.

And 8/10 for 2-4. It's great but I do think it's overrated. It is not in my top 5 cases but still very solid.

also would like to move 2-2 to a 5 from a 4. there aren't quite enough cases between 3-1 and 2-2 in my rankings, and there are too many cases below 2-2 (though some of them i kinda like more than 2-2)

also yeah, i have this as the third best intro but that's no knock at all against it. there are some amazing intros this series.

It's not that bad-- I just am not really a fan of playing as Mia Fey (incidentally this game devoting 2 cases to playing as Mia is probably why Im not as big on it as most). She is better in this younger form but she's no Phoenix Wright. (Who is a total goober in this case)

One of the best opening cases in the series, IMO. Getting to play as Mia is really nice.

I love that SD's rating for something he really loves is a 7

by far the best tutorial case of the og trilogy, and the one that feels the least like a tutorial - and im one of the amnesia plot thread defenders haha. something about this trial kind of bothers me but not enough to dislike it.

i really love how payne was utilized though. his breakdown is a top ten moment for this game and the fact that phoenix is partially responsible for his downfall as a rookie killer retroactively makes his prior appearances better (i love how phoenix doesn't even remember him in 2-1 even after regaining his memories!)

yeah i guess i really am giving this a decent score because of winston payne lol

This was a tutorial case? It sure doesn't feel like it. It's even more satisfying on replay when you know how much of a sadist Dahlia is.

Rookie Crusher and angsty Phoenix are great and offer more perspective on existing characters; one for better, one for... thank goodness he's not like that anymore.
