It wasnt put the best way, but I believe what they mean is it is not realistic to expect or pressure all women to look that way, or to portray all women in games that way.

Anyone being honest with themselves has certainly noticed this trend of western devs making the female characters in video games unattractive on purpose. The make them more mannish looking, less feminine, etc.

It's crazy how what the customer actually wants is never fractured into ANY of these missions statements. You are selling a product, isn't it smart to actually do things your customers like? Nobody likes ugo-female characters in games except ugo-female activists who don't even play games.

Whatever they want to do. Its an open market.

It mostly was a few decades ago, mega corporations buying each other and consolidating is making large budget gaming less of an open market than it's ever been. Lots of great IP's are now being held hostage by people who didn't make them or grow them and are just bastardizing them now.

The indy scene is the only open market in gaming and the types of games indie developers can produce are still greatly constrained by budgets.

The funniest thing about Stellar Blade is that while they did use a real model for the body proportions, they explicitly did not use the model's face and instead designed the most generic doll-like anime face possible. Should've just used the model's face, she's gorgeous.

But it's a fitting analogy for how all the hopeless gamer coomers see women - faceless bodies for them to jerk off to.

As action52 predicted several pages ago, a lot of people seem unable (or unwilling) to realize that not designing around exaggerated proportions does not mean that there can be no attractive characters.

No one is asking for ugly women. Some of the more toxic gamers just have this extreme view where either the women look like gorgeous, 10/10 super models or they're ugly. There's no in-between and it's ridiculous.

Like, the main character in Stellar Blade is literally based on a super model and you guys are like "See! This is how women in games are supposed to look."

But even outside of gaming, there's been pushback against the modeling industry for decades. Because only putting the most gorgeous, perfect women possible at the forefront sets unrealistic beauty standards for the average woman.

The point being that the average women doesn't look like that and will never look like that. And because that beauty standard is constantly shoved in their face, many young women get selfconscious about their looks and start getting plastic surgery to "fix" themselves. It's not healthy.

Nobody is asking for exclusively butch, ugly women, and many of the people who want more diversity in games absolutely talk about unrealistic male body standards.
