That game A) brought multiplayer into the series which became the default, B) brought the platformers back into the mainstream in a way they hadnt been for a while, and C) was one of the main selling points for the Wii at its peak. A) Yoshi being introduced in World sounds about as big of a deal. Yoshi is in nearly every game going forward, and has his own series. But otherwise a fair point. B) Maybe? Rayman and Donkey Kong would come back after, but that's all I could think of for mainstream titles. I guess Kirby threw in multiplayer too, but casual mainstream platformers is still a tiny genre. C) Eh who cares? The Wii is a dubious era to celebrate anyways because it clearly had fad-like properties. But even then every mario game is a best-selling game for its console. So I can agree World can get replaced, but I'm not convinced NSMBWii deserves it more. Its still the biggest franchise in the medium for a reason. My actual passion pick is Mario Kart 8. Skyward Sword and Galaxy 2 are the only games I can think of in that 2010-2013 space. Maybe Kirby was in there? PS2 definitely had God of War II and Persona 4 post-ps3 release.
