It hurts not to include TTYD even though I can't justify including it. I do not get the NSMB love especially compared to the Galaxy games. And yet that was the one that got discussions lol if I didn't feel like MK had to be represented I would put Galaxy 1 in its place. I asked my girlfriend her opinion on the poll, partially because I feel like weddings should be planned by both parties and partially because she's a big Sonic fan. The Drowning music option made her laugh a lot, but she ended up going with Live and Learn. The fact is, Sunshine did not do what it was supposed to and it looked like Super Mario (ie the main series) was falling behind other Nintendo top dogs like Smash and Pokmon. The GBA ports also sold well but didnt do top flight numbers. Galaxy did better, but the attach rate wasnt great (I believe the worst for a first entry). It was New Super Mario Bros Wii that turned it around at a really pivotal moment in gaming history. And if you dont get that moment you wind up where FF is now, making some great games but clearly fallen from where you used to be. --- I just decided to change this sig. I genuinely think this is a part of why Galaxy isnt as strong as other big contemporary Nintendo games or Odyssey in contests. It didnt actually feel as impactful as you would think. Truly excellent game btw, but surprisingly oft forgotten. Edit: Though just to say, not downplaying Galaxy, it did a tremendous job at repairing the brand damage Sunshine did and re-established the series at the top level of critical reception. No particular Mario Sports game stands out to me in this framing. Like...maybe Golf on the NES? Think that had Mario in it, but eeeeeeeeh. If so, it would be the really obvious inclusion for the fourth slot, but I'm not sure the genre wasn't established before it.
