Although I also know there's a lot of people who refuse to see black & white stuff so there's that too. Would kinda be funny if they made the ending with colours disappearing instead. Would make no sense, but funny.

tho definitely the kind of episode that leaves me wanting more... oh hey post-credits! I miss having these! That actually helps this feeling a lot. Coming from just watching s1e1 with my dad right before this it's interesting that both debut eps end with branching into Oklahoma (last time was Salina 1858, now Broxton 1982... yes this made me google maps search their distance)

God this was such a good episode. It made me miss when I was hyped for Marvel Disney+ shows.

Humor didn't quite hit for me but everything else was awesome.

Yeah that was great. I really want to shout out Benson and Moorhead as directors here, they brought a lot of their distinct visual flair to this like in the first sequence. So far the unseemly taste of Secret Invasion has been washed away.

I'll admit defeat re: the death of the MCU if The Marvels has a good showing. Otherwise I'll chalk Loki S2 numbers up to a being a blip/outlier in the same way that Guardians 3 is.

I'm pretty worried about the Marvels. Really not sold on it at all.

I don't have high hopes for The Marvels doing big numbers. This is just a sign that the MCU should do what I said before: Put out stuff with their heavy hitters with more regularity. People still want to see them more than they want to be introduced to brand new people all the time.

The reality is when you account for China, there hasnt actually been a substantial decrease in the MCUs numbers. Wakanda Forever was kind of the exception because it was following on from a huge cultural moment that wasnt going to be easily replicated and it was still hugely successful. None of the Marvels in trouble! takes ever account for the fact that a lot of these films either didnt release in China or faced a much smaller market there than it used to be. Even then, Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder were big successes and we are less than two years from No Way Home making nearly $2 billion without China. The audience never went away.

Really the only disappointment is Quantumania and even that grossed in between the first two Ant-Man films when accounting for China. The mistake Marvel made was giving their smaller film series such a huge budget for that entry and in turn stripping a lot of its charm away. If it had been budgeted like either of the first two it would have been seen as a success. I mean, Secret Invasion really sucked but according to Nielsen a lot of people were watching it.

With that said, The Marvels is in an interesting spot. Not sure if the hype is there even though it looks like a lot of fun. However Captain Marvel still made over $950 million without Russia and China. Overall the thing hurting it the most might actually be the fact that its not called Captain Marvel 2.

I'm actually really looking forward to The Marvels! I loved Iman's Kamala and she's definitely my biggest reason, but I also liked and look forward to getting more Monica Rambeau. And then Carol is kinda whatever, I hope she's good.

That sounds less like a blip and more like "popular characters are still huge successes". Which is a big step down from when Guardians debuted when every Marvel movie was all but guaranteed success, but still means the MCU is very much alive.

I'm pretty sure that's not true... The original GotG was a huge surprise in how well it did. It was like, kinda the turning point into modern mega successful MCU.

See I would say it was less the turning point and more the proof of just how successful/how big a deal the MCU was.

People were surprised because they didn't believe the MCU was enough to make movies about unknown characters a mega hit. They were wrong and Guardians showed them that.

The other point is that Guardians is a great movie, and if it had not been very good it probably would have underperformed after a strong opening. Quantumania had a great opening but then cratered, and frankly if the movie had been better received Marvels hit rate would still be unblemished.

Didn't something similar happen with the Han Solo movie? And that one seems reasonably well liked (for some reason).

But sources say that Corman and Ord crafted a legal procedural that did not resemble the Netflix version, known for its action and violence. Cox didn't even show up in costume until the fourth episode. Marvel, after greenlighting the concept, found itself needing to rethink the original intention of the show.
