I'm just learning that this sub didn't even have a real window. They took this risk to view the Titanic through a monitor? Something that anyone can do from their own homes? And they paid 250k to do it? I feel like I'm missing something. Like maybe there was no one on the sub and these people wanted to fake their deaths and start a new life somewhere.

Because it is stupid. People are worried about them, not even his own step son. People are just looking at this and saying how stupid it is . And I do agree we should care more about migrants dying for an example. But this is just so stupid a lot of people are drawn to it.

How fast does sound travel thru water? I mean is it quick or does it take time like in space. The sounds they hearing could be the sub banging against Titanic if its stuck and trapped in ocean currents or prob just bouncing around on the ocean floor..

I'd like to point out that in the case of the USS Thresher, they heard noises from it after it went below crush depth too. It's not actually indicative that anyone is still alive. Especially with a large shipwreck in the area that likely has water flowing through it.

Sound travels faster in a denser medium. That's why sonar works.

The Thresher was the first thing I thought of as well. And I'm pretty sure those noises ended up being some kind of interference from the search equipment they were using.

Sound needs a medium to travel through; sound does not travel in the vacuum of space.
However, sound does travel faster in a liquid.

and again say what you want about the structural issues we've heard so far like the viewport only supposedly being strong enough to go a third of the way to the titanic, or safety/rescue methods prepared, the one thing they did appear to have multiple fail-safes for was returning to the surface even if they lost power. It just seems highly unlikely they're just sitting on the ocean floor intact

Im surprised the company was green lit to do these trips. If we knew where they were under the sea for example they are trapped right next to the Titanic at bottom. Even then it tough to do a rescue because not many things can go that deep let alone bring it up. And we are in a situation where we dont even know where these missing people are.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong because this def isn't my forte, but my understanding is the Titanic being in international waters made it easier for this company to be shady and cut corners on safety, where if this had been in a body of water governed by a country they might not have been able to get away with it.

Every expert told the company it was a bad idea. But Mr. CEO, who said that regulations stifle innovation, built his submersible from parts he found at Home Depot, and the porthole glass wasn't rated for the depth. He could have gotten porthole glass that would, but that was expensive.

Dude also had wireless controllers as the controls, and we all know that wireless bluetooth always works.

As cynical as it sounds, the hours of oxygen left is basically just an excuse for the media to keep going for another day. The most likely outcome is that the porthole failed and they died the moment contact was lost.
