Do you think this is true?

According to Veteran Affair Statistics, 78% of the United States Military who leave end up getting FAT or OBESE and it isn't just those who got severely injured!!

The percentage of these veterans who are overweight are 7x more likely to get fat than those who are not as those who do end up staying fit and maintained healthy eating habits were in the minority

The biggest reasons for why that is? lack of discipline for starters. Military personnel are trained to the core every day at dawn and are given strict diets to keep the muscular physique. When they are finally free from the government chains, they can go eat those tasty meals they were denied while in the army...and America is big on fast food. Others says they have no time because they have to work right when they are out and don't have time for fitness centres and lose sleep which attribute to the weight gain.

Transitioning can be hard for ex-military once they are back in the real world and that is why like the majority of the military are super fit, the majority of them are also super fat once they get out too.

Do you believe this to be true?

Sure, weight issues often coincide with other health problems, be it physical injury or trauma or any number of things that are common for soldiers to develop.

Sounds more likely the other way around.

You got a man making crazy money holed up in a place with 1000 other dudes 24/7
Vs.
A woman who stays at home because her lover makes so much damn money and doesn't have to work she's bound to get bored and have a fuck toy around.

That statistic is barely higher than rate of being overweight in america in general with like 69% of americans being overweight or obese. I'd say it's probably higher due to the higher rate of mental illness is vets.

Came in to say this. The amount of exercise is reduced, but the amount of food they consume stays the same.

First, you folks are on the outside of an inside joke.

And B.: Cacciato and I were in the military. Can't speak for his experience, but speaking from my own, cheating is pretty much even between men and women.

For one thing, military spouses consist of men as well as women. There are plenty of women who deploy and leave a man at home.

There are women in almost every MOS in the military, and as such, women in most companies/brigades/battalions etc etc. Most deployments consist of men and women. And hookups while on deployment are definitely a thing. So people who deploy can cheat while on deployment... It's not just "lonely Jodys" at home in the States.

So no, it's not mostly women staying home fucking around. And for what it's worth, cheating isn't as much a problem in the military as people think. It absolutely happens, and maybe happens at a higher rate than civilian relationships (I'd have to look into that), but while cheating on deployment is a reality, there are just as many people who remain faithful.

Maybe Link and Ironborn and Cacciato can weigh in on that. Curious what they think.

If I gained a pound for every time I saw an American describe an obviously overweight individual as "average", I still wouldn't be as fat as an American.

Higher, by enough of a margin to expect that there's something going on there, but it's not a massive difference. The increased incidence of mental illness and sudden, significant drop in physical activity levels after being discharged are probably enough to explain it.

I personally believe that someone who has a job in which physical fitness is a crucial aspect of it (police, firefighters, military, etc.) should be required by law to keep a certain level of physical fitness to keep their job. And no, I don't care about the "I HAVE A GLANDULAR PROBLUM" scenarios.

They generally do (though as a matter of employment conditions, since the law really has no place dictating that). It's worth reviewing those requirements from time to time to make sure they actually reflect the needs of the job (especially as technological improvements reduce those needs) and aren't just being kept around as a matter of elitist prestige, but most people don't object to jobs having appropriate physical fitness requirements.

We did have to adhere to fitness standards but they would give fat people endless waivers. Unless they were getting really sloppy, morbidly obese or their weight was affecting their job performance significantly they would just give you a pass. Kinda bullshit for those of us who put in the effort but there's plenty of bullshit to go around in military life lol

We had a dude who was on waivers for years before they finally kicked him out.

Says who?

Conditions of employment are generally set by employers, not the government. The exception is anything to do with workplace safety, and while you could argue that requiring employees to be fit enough to handle the work safely falls under that, the legal requirement to enforce that standard falls on the employer, not the employee. An employee that fails to meet their job's physical fitness requirements should just be fired (or not hired), not subject to any legal penalty. Legal penalties should only apply if the employer fails to enforce the job's physical fitness requirements (presumably by firing them, or at least threatening to do so if they don't improve) and people are endangered as a result.

Of course, in the case of police, fire, and military, the government is the employer, but the basic structure still remains the same: Employees that fail to meet the job's standards should be fired, not subjected to legal penalties.

Me there if these are true. Maybe in BMT and Tech School They keep taking away group PT at my base because it was cutting into work too much where they had to allow people to go to work out. And the diet isnt strict. At my base, the choices are more plentiful now. But not everything is healthy

I work in a prison and some of the more badass officers are fat. We had one on the emergency response team. Eventually he had to drop out due to health issues but that doesn't mean he still can't rumble when the shit hits the fan. The emergency response team btw is like our elite officers. UCMJ saved my brother from an ugly custody battle. His wife cheated on him with another Marine. My brother said he wouldn't have her lover dragged through the military court if she agreed not to fight his custodial rights over their daughter. Got it in writing. He could've really fucked that other dude over and possibly ended his military career. His ex wound up marrying the dude lol

They've got even shared custody now, though she lives primarily with her mother because of school. It was kinda shrewd but also very smart of my brother to pull that off, especially given the emotion in the situation

Something similar happened to my buddy. He had ended up marrying a girl from back home and brought her here. Everything was going well at first, but then they went to a party of something. She ended up sleeping with this guy. And then there was a bunch of drama. Anyway, they ended up getting divorced. And now, shes married to the guy she cheated on him with, and they have like 2 kids and stuff
