We get this fairly often. Voted PT. Both are bad, but the PT is at least funny bad to me instead of boring and bad like the ST.

They're both rather bad, unfortunately, although in different ways.

Prequels had more cool stuff than the sequels, and pretty much everything the sequel trilogy went for swung and missed by the end. Some of the things in the sequels are good on an individual basis but as a trilogy they all just shit on each other.

TFA vs the PT would at least be a lot closer. After that the ST is just a massive pile of shitty payoffs and ideas throwing away virtually any halfway decent character stuff TFA had. I think nearly every actor in the ST was disappointed with their characters too

Correct but it's a tough call. Episode 9 is definitely the worst Star Wars movie but I don't think TLJ is good enough to counteract it, it's defeated by by how awful 9 is.

Still, PT itself is worthless but stuff has come OUT of it that's great. Nothing extraneously good has come out of the ST whatsoever because they're so cowardly with the license now.

TFA by itself would win in a landslide. Look, I know theres a couple things there that are dumb on their own, and overall its very derivative, but it at least setup a lot of threads that had great potential (that the next two movies shit all over).

I hate TFA because it does an awful setup for the ST. While enjoying it as a standalone movie more than what came after, I absolutely blame it for just completely resetting the story back to OT.

TFA was just a popcorn retread "this is star wars again!" movie and the new trilogy utterly failed because of it.

Yeah TFA was just a sequence of action setpieces without much in the way of story connecting them. Like, hey let's throw in a Death Star ersatz even though we're supposedly looking for Luke Skywalker! I mean, it's not like the Death Star was what the entire plot revolved around in A New Hope or anything.

TLJ was a small-scale indie drama burdened by having to follow TFA and RoS was pure contractual obligation project. It's amazing how poor both Abrams and Johnson fit for the franchise, almost like they were only hired off of previous successful sci-fi films they made without asking whether Star Trek '09 and Looper were adequate enough audition tapes.

Still better than the prequel trilogy though. This franchise is a wash as far as films are concerned.

The Last Jedi alone gives it to the sequels. The Force Awakens is pretty good. Revenge of the Sith is also good but not good enough to offset the other two. Similarly, The Rise of Skywalker is the worst of all of them but its not bad enough to negate the good two.

Attack of the Clones is an utter nightmare to sit through, that it almost single-handedly brings it down under the Sequel trilogy. But the Prequels definitely have some positive merits that it follows through on, whereas the Sequels have some neat ideas and flubs almost every single one.

ST added almost nothing of value and at least right now feels like it would be better off swept under the rug and forgotten.

They're both trash. That some people were able to make some of the trash in the PT halfway decent doesn't stop the PT from being trash.

I actually would vote for TFA by itself over the prequel trilogy just because at that point my hope for good movies in the second or third ST movie wasn't dead.

That's not really praise for TFA though just more praise for my hope for Star Wars after TFA (before TLJ buried it deep beneath the earth)

First two movies of the sequels are significantly better than the first two movies of the prequels.
But the third prequel is better than the third sequel. The only good thing I can think of is Rey killing Palpatine with the souls of the Jedi flowing through her body.

tbh I should rewatch the prequels because it's been forever.

Honestly when Phanom Menace came I was still very much a child (7-8 y/o) and I really enjoyed it at the time and growing up I've kinda just ignored going back to it, to the point I've probably seen the other 2 more........ also I loved Pod Racer on N64.

ST was fun in a popcorn-flick kind of way (sit back, don't think too hard, and shovel down popcorn). PT doesn't do that.

9 was an absolutely awful ending but I still find it more watchable than 2 or 1 - 7 and 8 are genuinely enjoyable Star Wars products to me even if 8 is a weird, hot mess and 7 writes checks it can't cash

I just really do not like the style of Star Wars that the prequel trilogy presents, but to each their own I suppose! Palps carries the entirety of 3 on his back, that movie's terrible except for when he's on screen, when it becomes legitimately good

Been saying this for years. Marcia Lucas wasn't on Episode 3 to reign George in and it shows because it's so bad. That stuff is great, but everything else about the movie is just butt. Episode 3 was a precursor to the PT, the DNA of what Lucas uncaged truly means is visible throughout it.
