In Canada, everyone calls it Pop. In the UK they call it Soda or Soda Pop but in the US it VARIES..as some call everything COKE...

So what do you call a generic soft drink that's high in carb and sugar?

That "let me get a coke" shit is not true in my experience

Not that I've been all over damn Texas, but it's a soda
Unless that one little tiny yellow in the middle is Houston
But I grew up going back and forth between Groveton and Houston - half city half country boy

And if you heard someone asking for a Coke, they literally wanted Coca Cola

But that picture dates back to 2003 for it's results, I wonder if the website noted has updated statistics.

even sprite they would call coke

When I was a little kid, I said soda pop. As I got older, I merely called it soda.

I have always called it Soda, which according to that map is wrong in my area, but I still haven't heard very many people call it "Pop" except when I go to Toronto. From what I remember of Montreal, even there they called it "Soda".

Nebraska might be right but I've never been there. My best friend who's from Nebraska says pop.

I say soda but I will accept pop, soda pop, and soft drink. Carbonated drink sounds like someone saying it to be technical. Calling it a cooe is just stupid, that's like the people who call all video games nintendos.

I'm from Minnesota originally so I've called it Pop, soda or Coke (depends on the type). I've even called it soda pop on occasion. I've heard Pop used the most, however, since Minnesota shares a border with Canada.

I use the terms interchangeably, which oddly pisses off a lot of people.

I'm born and raised in Chicago, and I think "pop" is the preferred nomenclature, but it sounds too infantile to my ears. It's something a kid would say. So I'm not sure, I might say "soda" more, but TBQH, I don't drink either, so IDGAF, haha.

So when you want a Pepsi or Sprite, you ask for Coke? That's confusing.

And potentially perilous. You want a Fresca, and someone hands you a kilo of cocaine, then you get arrested.
