Played it like what...3 years ago? Besides the side stories nothing really interests me (wow HD improvements for a visual novel...)
Maybe in a few years I will forget the story and want to replay it

They got some special permissions for Undertale on console. But here I can only think of some sort of in-game virtual OS which wouldn't be as meta.

There's a lot of things that just won't work on consoles though. Off the top of my head there's..

• The images and text files that get added to your file system
• Monica moving your mouse
• Deleting Monica's character folder

There's a solution for everything I guess, but a solid chunk of the DDLC experience was from the file explorer imo.

This is my main concern. I would be super hyped to an expanded doki doki. This is uh. Not exactly what I am looking for. I dont see how progressive horror meshes with 6 side stories.

shame I avoided what this was for a few years, and recently watched a streamer play thru it figuring it was never hitting ps4. kinda will lose its magic now

I mean, wasn't Monika's whole deal that she was made there was no Monika Route? So, shouldn't she not get as much attention as the others, since she's the helper NPC?

This is pretty much every game that isn't part of a series. The fact that it's still brought on occasion at all is pretty impressive.

Serious question from someone who has somehow managed to have never played or even seen someone else play this game, though I know some stuff from osmosis.

Is this game ACTUALLY a super good and well written VN, or is this one of those things where it blew up among people who don't play VNs at all due to being free, and because it got Twitch popular?

Again, I'm not assuming anything, I'm just wondering if this is gonna hit the same way for someone already genre entrenched. Big time streamer popularity is also just unfairly a bad association to me because of how many completely uninteresting games like FNAF have blown up because of them, and even some outright terrible ones like Hello Neighbor.

That's kind of what I was feeling.

I guess getting into the meat more of what I know, is it just the meta gimmicks that are the draw? Are the parts where it's actually just being a regular VN actually good, or is it all just about the shocking twists and when the wierd stuff hits? I've played Higurashi, the sudden whiplash of some girl having hung herself isn't going to do anything for me just in a vaccum.

Honestly, if you're curious, just play it. It's free and it's like four hours long.

It's a short game so the part where it's a regular VN doesn't last long.

It's written in a way that is meant to be "basic." Also, it blew up because of things that weren't necessarily "visual novel" concepts. Let's just say it's meant to be the way it is. Sure, meta moments are a draw, but you don't necessarily KNOW that going in. Even if you do...you'll still get the uneasy feeling something is fucked up.

Took me under three hours I think, so yeah, pretty short. I've played a lot of VNs and I enjoyed it! Though as far as Western VNs go, Katawa Shoujo was better.
