Can you see why this outfit would make females "uncomfortable"?

17 y/o Karis Wilson from Kamloops, British Columbia was sent home after her female teacher told administrators that her outfit was making her VERY UNCOMFORTABLE!!

She was abruptly pulled out from NorKam Senior Secondary and escorted to the principal's office according to her father, Christopher.

He posted a video that has now gone viral with various reactions

The school district declined to tell Dailymail which teacher felt uncomfortable and did not want to interview citing canadian privacy laws

A spokesperson said a teacher's professional association within the BC Ministry of Education will conduct an internval review who said they are aware of the incident regarding a grade 12 student and dress code who said they are working with the parent to recitfy the situation

Christopher wrote a FB post about his daughter being sent home who is asking people to stand with him and his daughter to make sure those involved are held accountable and ended it with #imwithkaris who said was hurt and frustrated and disappointed in the system

The only dress code is that it prohibits students from wearing clothing promoting alcohol or tobacco use or depicts nudity or wearing clothes with offensive language or is a distraction

Students took to protest as one student said "A female's education is far more important than how she is dressed. if somebody else's choice of clothing makes you uncomfortable then that is entirely on you!"

They held signs that said "I am not my dress! My education is more important than wha i wear. Am i distracting you with my midrift?"

Can you see why her outfit would make females uncomfortable?.

Anyway, I don't think there's anything wrong with that outfit. My school has a very lax dress code. It's basically "no drugs, alcohol, violence, or sexual images" and "wear a top/pants that cover more than just underwear covers".

We've only sent one kid home for dress code violation since I've been there and it's because he literally came to school without a shirt on.

Also, without knowing all the details, I kind of feel bad for that student teacher. He's clearly been placed with a problematic mentor and is unfairly going to be lumped into sharing the brunt of the outrage from the students and community.

Why do people keep calling the teacher "he" when it very clearly calls the teacher a female in the title?

Also why does everyone want to force dress codes on school kids? There's no reason to do that to kids, let them choose what they want to wear until they actually have to wear a uniform

She's fortunate that she's not going to a private school where you're required to buy an uniform. The reason for uniforms is so that one student can't lord it over another that they have more money and/or clout than other students, etc. Uniforms are meant to put all the students at the same level in the eyes of their classmates as well as teachers.

I would love to know exactly what was meant by uncomfortable.

There's nothing technically wrong with that outfit; it covers everything that needs to be covered in a school setting. The fact remains that she is walking around in public wearing underwear/pajamas over a turtleneck sweater, which is very odd. If I were her teacher I would find it a somewhat distracting. I would be embarrassed for her and be constantly wondering if she knew she that she was wearing a slip/nightgown rather than a dress.

The black item of clothing she is wearing is not a dress. It was not meant to be seen in public. It's most likely a slip (also known as a petticoat) which is an item of underwear that is meant to be worn underneath a dress. It could also be a neglig, which is a sexy nightgown.

It's likely that this girl bought the slip at a vintage store and thought it was a dress.

Same. 17 isn't a kid. Over here we can work at 16 and uniforms often serve as getting "kids" used to wearing uniforms in work. It also helps with bullying and representing the school image. "Kids" don't wear what they want anyway. It's normally what the parents allow them to wear.

Except that it is not a dress. In my younger days I wore slips just like that under dresses. I can tell the difference and that is NOT a dress. I do concede that it could be a neglig, but it's a bit plain for that.

This whole situation is silly and completely avoidable. The teacher should have pulled the poor kid aside and let her know that she had committed an embarrassing fashion faux pas, and told her not to wear that again. Dad should have checked his temper and consulted with Grandma or another adult woman before making a big deal about it. Now everyone involved looks stupid.
