Just finished season 1 and really quite enjoyed it. Wish the choices were a little more consequential, but I guess that would require a much bigger budget...

Anyway, I've heard the series peaks here. But are the other seasons worth playing?

I think they are, with the caveat in mind that your choices will matter even less than S1 going forward. I think they're still fun stories to go through, I still enjoy the character interactions overall.

Yeah the characters and dialogue are wonderful. I just wish you could really alter the game path with decisions (ie, deciding to stay on the farm, choosing to go to the coast vs inland, etc.).

I enjoyed S2 but it was a step down. And if you are looking for choices to matter that isnt really Telltale's jam, though I think they do what they do well.

Only slightly related but I am morally obligated to plug Telltale's best work, Tales From the Borderlands, if you enjoyed this.

Really? I've only heard that TWD was worthwhile, but that might have just been backlash from their Batman series.

I really hated S2, but I'm also not to big on Telltale games so you might get some enjoyment out of it

Yeah the choices don't matter but the games are solid. Season 2 and 3 are kind of mediocre but I actually enjoyed the final season, mostly because of the payoff and emotions of multiple games coming to fruition.

The Walking Dead games are the best things in the Walking Dead universe. True, your choices don't lead to a completely different outcome (how could they given the resources that would be involved?) but I never felt like I wasn't involved in shaping the narrative. The controls are a bit clunky and some of the stuff that happens later on angered me a fair bit, but it was just a great experience overall.

S2 is still pretty good.

S3 is awful

Final Season has some moments but not that great overall.

Second this, one of my favorite games though a lot of that comes from the humor. So if you bounce off that, it might not work as well.

Also I've never played a Borderlands game beyond this so that's definitely not needed to enjoy it.

Tales From the Borderlands is super good. Definitely my favorite Telltale game I played. And I don't even like Borderlands.

For me Walking Dead Telltale is like this

Season 1>Season 4>Season 2>Season 3

All the games are decent if you cared about Clementine. The first one is the best and decisions often lead to the same road but it's still fun for me, I still really love games like those so having a few more was cool with me. Shame about Telltale folding.

Once the illusion of choice mattering was broken, I couldn't get into any more games from this series. It's also part of why I fell off of Fallout 4 so fast - the dialogue choices actually going against what I wanted to do made me realize I was being lied to and I stopped caring.

If you've played one Telltale episodic game, you've played them all. OK that's not fair some of them vary it up a little, but that's the vibe I got from the ones I played. With every game I played after TWD S1 the charm wore off more and more, you learn the tropes and methodology of their writing and they very rarely stray from their formula. Like determinant characters always always get screwed. Also with some of the games it is more clear that they were making it up as they go along, like GoT. And their gameplay engine never improves in the games I played at least, it's always stuttery and buggy as hell.

TWD S2 starts off pretty good imo but goes downhill a lot to the point I hated the last ep. The Wolf Among Us is my fav of the bunch though I haven't played Borderlands and that gets a lot of praise.

I can never understand this complaint
Just how many games actually let you have free control of what happens and let the MAIN STORY branch into more than 3 stories?
Your choices matter for different, side stuff. But of course the main story will be the same

Also can confirm Tales from the Borderlands is amazing, up there with TWD S1

And as much as TWD S3 sucks, nothing is as bad as GoT. Nothing. Do not play this shit. Ever

Season 1 was awesome. The ending had me legitimately close to tears. Never played any of the other seasons because I didn't want to ruin that memory. My story was canonical and I was happy.

Last year I played Wolf Among Us and both seasons of Batman. I thought both were very good as well. I play them knowing that I'm flavoring the story, not changing what that story is, and I'm totally fine with that.

Minecraft is okay I guess. What really annoyed me was they initially sold a five-episode season, then the main story wrapped in four and the fifth opened a new storyline, with another three-episode pass continuing things from there. (And then Season Two came out after that.)
