I am pretty sure everyone agrees that it is worst than the first. I mean the movie is like 2.5 hours long and it has like 3 WW scenes!

I thought it was terrible but at least the actors seemed motivated.

This felt like an early 2000s tier Superhero movie. The bad ones, not the good ones. Kind of nuts what a mess this is.

How did this happen?

The thing that really brought that to mind was Maxwell Lord. It's one thing to have a new take on a character with your own twist, but this movie just turns him into the one dimensional generic villain of stuff like Catwoman and Dardevil Affleck. He has nothing in common with the actual character.

And then Cheetah...why was Cheetah in the movie? Studio mandate? Sounds like Jenkins was given free reign for this movie though and got to shoot the studio down whenever she wanted.

I saw clips of the platitudes the Amazonian says to young Diana at the end of the intro and the platitudes Diana gives at the end of the film about truth and boy oh boy how did that actually feel to watch?

The intro goes on forever. This movie is so much longer than it needs to be.

The director obviously had someone reigning her in on the first movie. But after the huge success of the first movie (which was a bit overrated) and the huge praise heaped on her specifically (once again, a bit overrated) she obviously was allowed to do whatever the fuck she wanted with this one. And this is what we got.

Saw this a couple days ago and there's one thing that's been bothering me ever since and I'm having trouble accepting.

Diana and Steve were way too cool about the fact that they stole a man's life. I couldn't get over this. There's never any thought put into it, she's never like "Damn this is messed up we need to find a way to keep you around and get this guy his life back". It's just, "Oh Steve you're here I don't care what body you're in I only see you." It just feels wildly out of character for Wonder Woman to be okay with basically killing a man. Steve could have come back in his own body and you lose out on like three jokes. I kept expecting them to feel conflicted about it but nope, they're fine with it up until the very end.

One thing that I kept thinking about is how Bruce in JL only had evidence of Diana's earlier exploits and never mentions any of this 1984 stuff. The ending does vaguely imply that everything is fine and everyone renouncing their wishes undid everything, but Diana still remembers, so does everyone else?

Then I thought about it more and realized Bruce would have been around 12 in 1984. His parents would already be dead. What do you think little Bruce wished for then had to renounce?

Uh pretty much freaking everyone had a tv in 1984, but it was uncommon to have more than one per household at least.

He got his wish. His parents aren't dead. The thing he lost in return for it was his memory of the event and their new existence. He would never renounce this.

lmfao

There was a bunch of problems with the movie though. I didn't think the movie sucked, but I did think it was average at best.

I just saw it

Didn't hate it
Too corny
Too long
Pedro Pascal was so hilariously over the top that he stole every scene he was in and probably saved the movie

Also when he was in Egypt, the movie hilariously cut the guy saying "Saudis" and dubbed in "heathens" instead
Like, that's not better, guys

This movie is just a disaster and I know people who loved it and I'm just boggled. If I weren't drinking and joking about it the whole time, I wouldn't have been able to sit through it.

Patty Jenkins just shouldn't be allowed to lead the screenplay. Let her just direct, because she's good at that. But giving her this much free reign on the movie was a mistake.

So many of the tropes in the movie were just trash and laughable. The Steve Trevor in another body thing was... bad in a lot of ways.

I have no idea what they even used the Amazon flashback at the beginning was or why it contradicted a lot of the origins in the original movie.

They were saying Maxwell Lord was supposed to be like Trump, but he wasn't like him at all. Not a complaint because that probably would have sucked anyway.

But there are so many questions with the wish stuff that's just not explained. Like, I don't know how they put so little thought into this or didn't care, or why they thought Wonder Woman gives an impassioned speech and EVERYONE listens was a satisfying conclusion.

I just don't understand how they let this movie be as bad as it was after how great the first one was.

Theres so much wrong with it that people using Maxwell for memes is basically the only positive. I have extremely low expectations for WW3 now. DC just cant seem to hit magic because even their best stuff is like low/mid tier MCU level even though theyve got such beloved characters like the goddamn Batman

I not even once got the impression that "Maxwell Lord is a bad guy" so much as "Maxwell Lord is so in over his head give this idiot a hug FFS".

And then it doesn't help that Cheetah's entire motivation is "I CAN'T GO BACK TO BEING SO ORDINARY." Like really? You're willing to let the world be destroyed so boys notice you again? You couldn't come up with anything better than this?

Pedro Pascal was incredible (the writing for the character was iffy but Pascal himself was a blast)

Kristen Wiig was a terrible casting choice for Cheetah but also Cheetah was a terribly written character and her CGI was awful on top of it; what a disaster

also the idea that Diana would have spent the last 70 fucking years just pining over this dude she briefly met is ridiculous and a huge disservice to the character

Apparently WB wanted the movie to have more action and be darker in tone, but Jenkins insisted women don't want to see that, they want to see romcom stuff.

Because I think you guys would find this hilarious, you remember that picture in Batman vs. Superman that Batman found of Wonder Woman? Well this was the original picture Joss Whedon was going to use.

Zack Snyder originally wanted Wonder Woman to be in the Crimean War and to be a bloodthirsty barbarian.
