I noticed on some of these higher abilities it doesn't say "removes fire/ice" anymore, it just says "puts you in fire/ice". Should I take that as being able to ditch transpose?

You'll need to keep that around for downtime when the boss jumps or between mobs in dungeons but you can put it somewhere less accessible because you won't intentionally use it mid-combat. There's not gonna be any getting around using multiple hotbars eventually.

Yeah, transpose will always be needed even once you hit the level cap, but you can probably stick it on a second hotbar because you don't have to use it quite as much once you get up there.

You still need to be able to swap from fire to ice before using Umbral Soul, though (and tbh transpose SHOULD upgrade into Umbral Soul and do this, but it doesn't)

I mean from what I understand it won't matter so much when I go to Red Mage since that uses a whole different system. Obviously I'll still level Black Mage after that, though, so still good to know.

On console I assume. It's System > Character Configuration > Hotbar Settings > Custom

You'll be using different systems but no class can get away with only one hotbar, so it's better to get used to the idea now.

When I get home I'll check my setup and see how I made it so that when you sheathe/unsheathe it autoswitches hotbars for you. That should help with the transition.

Also I think I've decided to do Dark Knight, Machinist, and....either Astrologer or Scholar next, not sure which. Leaning Astrologer but getting two classes for the work of one with Summoner seems solid as well (assuming my info of them both leveling simultaneously is up to date).

After watching tons of videos, Machinist APPEARS to be the most fun to play while also being easy to pick up. From what I can gather the job got a huge rework and is completely different than it used to be?

Machinist, like Bard, is easy to pick up and do fairly well with because being mobile ranged DPS without long casting times is borderline cheating. You basically never stop pressing buttons though, so it might be a culture shock if you go to it straight from Black Mage, which presses the least buttons out of any class in the game.

Bard looks like a nightmare, though. Multiple videos I watched said it only exists to unlock so you can troll around the Home Crystal's by blasting your trumpet.

If you like the idea of hitting buttons while playing a video game:

-Play Ninja if you want to be a melee DPS
-Play Machinist if you want to be a ranged DPS
-Play Monk if you hate yourself

Off the top of my head, those are the high APM classes. Then there's everything else in the middle...then Black Mage.

Jenova. When I was creating my character it's the only one I could pick! There were 3 other that were highlighted including one with a signup bonus, but they all spat me out saying "naw dog, full".

I'm a bard main and people I know tell me Bard is too complicated (which is funny because I think it (and all ranged) needs to be made more complex).

Here's the thing about Bard: it's based entirely around 30-second timers, and getting used to that will either click with your brain or break it. It's also very high APM compared to most other jobs, and also is random and requires you to react to procs.

And here is the thing about Dancer and Machinist: they are both easier to learn, easier to optimize, and have less buttons to hit than Bard, for about the same amount of damage. So that's why you're getting those takes that Bard is a meme job or a nightmare.

Surprised Monk is that low. Also that chart is not perfectly indicative of class difficulty as Dancer is by far the easiest class in the game to play.

I edited my post for clarity but this is the key

With bard the stuff driving the APM up is random procs, so during two of your songs you have to be ready to go at all times or miss actions. With MCH you have a burst phase where you mash your keyboard, and you do this more often, but you essentially have complete control over when it occurs.

Also BRD has a faster GCD than MCH outside of its hypercharge window so that also drives it up.

When you say Sniper, you mean someone who hits from a safe distance? Cause while the ranged DPS are generally safer, there's no such thing as a perfectly safe class. Everyone has to move and do mechanics.

I honestly wouldn't worry too much about which classes look complicated or not. The biggest learning curve for you right now is just getting used to how an MMO works in general. While some classes are tougher to learn than others, they're all made to be approachable, and you'll have more success if you just pick a flavor/playstyle that looks pleasing to you and rolling with it than you will worrying yourself over whether or not you'll be able to make it work. And if for whatever reason it doesn't end up fitting your playstyle...try something else! Just that simple. FF14 is meant to be a very casual-friendly MMO.

Dancer is by far the simplest job in the game. Maybe RDM is close, but that's it.

Well here's one tip for you, now that you have Freeze, Fire 2 is completely useless unless you're synced down, so you can take that off your bar unless you're doing leveling roulette. Above level 35 you will never use that skill again.

Congrats on your new AOE rotation which is (thunder 2) -> Freeze -> Freeze -> Freeze -> Freeze -> etc.

This is actually incorrect from level 50 onward (until you can double Flare) because Astral Fire buffs Fire 2 above Freeze and you want to be in fire to use Flare: https://www.akhmorning.com/jobs/blm/guide/starting-off/#aoe-3-targets (though at 60 you also replace the Fire 2s with Fire 4s at <5 targets)

Freeze does obsolete Blizzard 2, though.

As far as ranged jobs go imo MCH is a lot more fun than BRD (haven't tried DNC yet). I'm really not a fan of having to constantly respond to procs; losing dps because I don't notice that Bloodletter came off cd early for a few seconds feels bad!

I'm gonna make the buy on the 18th, last day of the sale. About to go up against Titan sometime soon I think, not sure how far in that is. I'm level 40, but the current MSC is just 32.

Dig into other classes whenever you feel like. I don't think there's a wrong way to do that unless you spread yourself thin trying to level 4+ classes at once or something like that.

Titan is halfwayish through ARR? Is also when ARR picks up and you start getting actual boss fights.

It really is up to you. If you're curious about other classes then go for it, if you'd rather just focus on the story and your main then do that and swap after you beat the game.

Titan is about 2/3rds of the way through the base plot, but then you have postgame to do before Heavensward. At that rate you are going to hit 50 (the soft cap for ARR) before you beat ARR and the patch story so it's more efficient to start leveling another class now. On my alt character I used this method to get two classes to 50 before I was even through the 2.0 story. But again, up to you.

7/15 runs of Delubrum Reginae complete for the current final relic weapon step. Planning on finishing it by Saturday. Work has meant I've only managed one run a day or so until now.

Loving the new 5.45 content though. Got BLU to max level and got all the skills. It's fun stuff.

Im still on the second step... I think Im up to like 10 60 crystals and 5 70 crystals or something.

I also just finished getting all of the new BLU skills, though! (And finally did the Carnivale stages I had been putting off to get the rez)

I wish it wasnt such a pain to switch BLU abilities, though; they really need to couple saving hotbars along with spellbooks.

Did they streamline the pre-Titan questlines? I think that was probably the lowest point of FF14 in general (after 1.0).

FF14's music is fantastic and, like everything else about the game, only gets better after ARR. Titan's Theme is a classic and it's not even in my Top 20 FF14 songs at this point.

The banquet quests are still in there and that questline is the worst part of ARR. It's sad if that's an improved version of it.
