If you ask me thats the opposite of selfish Having children in some ways is the most selfish thing you can do, because you are removing all choice from the child, they don't get to choose to exist, you chose to create them. It's worse if you then abandon the child or if you are a bad parent, and it's why you should be responsible for any children you do have. Adopting is much less selfish since you are helping a child that was already born (and I guess abandoned by it's parents. If you do want kids, you should ensure you can give them a good life before having them. I would still love to have kids but there is no way I would at this point, I'm too old (although possibly not physically, IE I might still be able to have them), and it wouldn't be right. I would love to meet someone with kids someday and perhaps help to raise them, but I'm getting past the age where that is very likely as well (unless I get together with someone much younger than me). I've gone way deeper on every conceivable front regarding many drugs, and have never been to rehab or a psych ward. All that being said, those of you that have known me for over a decade know damned well how finite my empathy is. If I'm not a psychopath, I'm definitely borderline in that regard. I've literally been the "Jen" in the relationship as I described in great detail earlier in this topic. I'm entirely too wrapped up in myself to deal with the mewling of a child, and the laughter of children cuts through me like a razorblade. Some people just don't want or cannot tolerate raising a child. If there is any point myself and Jen can agree on it is that for whatever reason. In my case, it is because I have zero patience and can't guarantee I wouldn't backhand my own child thru a wall at some point. I made peace with that realization over 20 years ago. I won't speculate as to Jen's reasons, frankly I don't care. But I do understand an overarching desire to not raise a child. The fact that many of you attack her for it because you're like fucking sharks in chummed water makes me angry. Call it whatever you like, but if you want to come at her sideways for it, by all means come at me too. It's not a white Knight thing. Everyone has their reasons. I still love the girl that wanted kids with me, but we're never going to be compatible in that regard and that's just how the bones were going to fall. Shit happens. The rock keeps spinning. We move onward. Not all women are obligated to make babies any more than all men are obligated to spread their seed. Any more lip out of you fuckers and I'm taking my belt off. Come at me the way you've come at her. And the fact that the issue kept coming up during their relationship should have been a red flag for both of them.
