Board 8 > Best Ace Attorney Game?

I played the original three games forever ago after seeing this board hype up the series and really liked them, but I didn't bother with Apollo Justice as everyone seemed to dislike it. More recently I picked up Dual Destinies and was a bit disappointed, the game was perfectly fine but no case hit the highs that the original trilogy hit for me and I was left a bit cold by the end of the final case. I'm wondering if it's the general consensus that the series has lost a step post-T&T. Metacritic has remarkably consistent reviews across the board but I'm curious what you folks think. Is Spirit of Justice at a similar level to DD?

I think the common consensus is 6 > 5. It definitely has higher highs than 5 even if I personally find 5 more consistently good.

3 is clearly the best though

JFA is my favorite, T&T is close, but I just personally enjoy JFA's 2nd and 3rd cases more than T&T's.

Now in regards to the sequel trilogy, I agree DD is really weak. Between fixing the issues in AJ and putting a fresh spin on the game, while still staying true to originals it was a lot to juggle and the game feels like sort of a mess as a result.

With SoJ though they definitely pick up their stride though. It's still got flaws don't get me wrong, but it's a pretty strong entry.

I also heard AAI2 is phenomenal, so if you can find a way to the play or watch that, I highly recommend it

I'd rank 5 and 6 about equally. The cases in 6 are generally better, but Nahyuta just kinda sucks, and Blackquill is great. Also 5's DLC case blows 6's out of the water. Quite possibly the best non-finale case in the series.

aa6's finale definitely won't leave you cold like 5-5 did. with that boost it's overall on par with aa5.

Oh right, I should add that I haven't played the DLC case for DD, I didn't know it was held in high regard.

No surprise that T&T is winning handily but I'm glad a lot of people seem to rate SoJ highly! I'll most likely pick it up now. DD was definitely pretty consistent and I totally get that they had a lot of work to do after AJ, it was just missing a truly great case that ties the whole game together like the first three had imo. But maybe the DLC will help with that.

3>1>2>5 for me, though 2-4 is my fav case of all. It's a real shame AAI2 wasn't localised, seeing as AAI1 seems to be right at the bottom with AJ on everybody's list.

Good news, Ace Attorney Trilogy regularly goes on sale and is on every current platform (and the 3DS). Switch, PS4, Xbox, mobile, PC. Its one of those put it on everything games. You should check it out!

Is 1-4 or 1-5 the epic case for AA1?

Actually now that I look at my list, I don't think that changes a single placement of mine, regardless. 3-5 is almost even with 6-5, and the rest of the mid-section is all about even anyway. Plus, 2 is already low and I'm not putting it below E1 or........

uhhhh you know what, maybe this is blasphemous, but I think I'd put AJ over JFA then.
4-1 >>>>>>>>>>>> 2-1
4-2 > 2-2, but it's very close
2-3 > 4-3, but it's very close
AJ wins pretty easy then.

I don't think that's blasphemous. 2 is hard-carried by 2-4, while Apollo's best case is 4-1. Removing 2-4 hurts 2 the most out of any game imo.

yikes, 4-2 and 4-3 are the two worst full length cases in the series, and 2-2 is actually good

4-1 alone can't overcompensate for how bad 4-2 and 4-3 are

I don't know that my rankings would change that much taking the epic cases out of it. 2-4 is the best case in the series, but the epic case is the best case for most games, so it balances out most of the time.

4 should benefit
2 and 6 are the hardest hit

T&T is the best game in the series.
AAI2 and the GAA games are the other big standouts.
1, 2, SoJ are pretty good.
AJ, DD and AAI1 are mediocre. DD in particular is probably my least favourite.
Haven't played/watched PWvPL so no idea on that one.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door would probably win by a majority, even if I'd vote for the 64 version.

I'm hearing everything I had hoped to hear about SoJ, recapturing the magic of the original trilogy is exactly what I was wanting to happen. I'm surprised that it's in (an admittedly very distant) second place right now, I'll definitely pick it up when it's next on sale. Thanks for all the responses about that!

My bad! I know nothing about those games and from a brief glance they looked like distant spinoffs that had nothing to do with the main series, I should've included them anyway.

Witcher 3 is the obvious one to me, also I think Diablo II dominates more than anything else mentioned.

But for a longer series, with 7+ games? I can't think of anything myself. Layton Unwound Future that Nanis mentioned is a really good answer.

Main series only and not thinking about DLC cases:

3 > 5 > 6 > > 4 > 2 > 1

3-2 is hype as hell, I actually like it more than most of the "epic" cases. 3-1 and 3-4 are also great. 3-3 is not great but it's also pretty good by filler standards.

5-3 is the most underrated case in the series. The rest of them are mediocre, but 5-3 is doing a lot of carrying here.

6-5 is amazing, but I don't know if we're counting it as the "epic" case here. if we are then maybe we drop SOJ below AJ, even though that seems wrong. 6-2 and 6-3 are fairly enjoyable, but both have major issues. 6-1 and 6-4 suck but they're not terrible.

I'm the only one who stans for 4-2 - I actually really enjoy this case. 4-1 is debatably the best introductory case in the series (I still say it's 3-1). 4-3 is the worst case of all time.

2-1 is so stupid it's almost enjoyable for its sheer stupidity. I dislike 2-2 and 2-3 quite a bit, but at least there's gameplay here, which puts it automatically over the first game.

1-1 doesn't count as anything. 1-2 is basically still a tutorial; not bad but it's pure set-up. 1-3 is great the first time through but on repeated playthroughs it can be a chore.
