I know a lot of people these days don't cook, so I was curious how people are getting meals.

Only 2 or 3 times. So the usual for us probably. We try to only eat out or get take out once a week both for money and health reasons

I went to dinner the last night that restaurants were fully open and then had takeout a few times thereafter, but once the whole non-essential worker thing took effect I haven't... no, wait, I had McDonald's at least once or twice before I started 100% telecommuting.

I delivered for DoorDash for a week or two of when quarantine started, but in the past week+ Ive been on lockdown myself

Pretty much every day for me...McDs, Popeyes and Pizza Hut off the top of my head

Two weeks ago when it was just starting, I got Dominos carry out twice cause they had the 50% off sale. Got take out from a local Asian store/restaurant last weekend.

Probably won't press my luck any further. Even just going to the grocery store now feels tense.

The alleged reason is nothing but liberal spin but, generally speaking, Chinese places in general aren't very active right now. When I wanted Chinese a few weeks back, I had to call 6 places before I found one that was open. One of the owners I talked to specifically mentioned that because schools and offices were closed, there wasn't as much demand so it didn't make sense to stay open.

Got Wendys drive thru after grocery shopping last week , my little town only has a Pizza King in it .And a Subway(yuck) at the gas station.

Otherwise , I'm cooking since I'm off and the wife is working.

Then please inquire as to the sales of all your place restaurants and other food places as to their current sales vs previous sales so that we can ascertain to the veracity of your claims. Based on actual numbers and not just rumors from nobody. Otherwise, it's as Zeus said: empty victim claims from the people we're used to hear it from.

Yea, quite a few times. I just don't really have much lunch stuff and my microwave is broken right now. All I've really got is pasta and chicken in the house, and I think ramen is the only kind of pasta suitable for lunch.

Even before all of this started, it's been a while since I got takeout from anywhere. The closest I've done since the lockdown is take home leftover pastries from work at the end of my last shift there (protip: if you ever find yourself with some stale chocolate croissants, turn them into bread pudding. **** was delicious), which I'm not sure really counts. We've just been cooking everything we've eaten.

And what conclusions do you think you can draw from a subset of commercial establishments being disproportionately less active than other, similar establishments? Because in my experience, when stores close despite not being legally required to, it's usually because business is down to such an extent that they can't afford to keep running. If other restaurants are able to stay open despite schools and offices being closed, that suggests that there are enough people looking for takeout to sustain restaurants, which in turn suggests that fewer takeout-seekers than normal are interested in Chinese food for some reason.

Is that reason racism? Maybe. Maybe not. There are enough other potential factors that could cause such an effect that jumping straight to the simplest explanation isn't necessarily accurate. But I can tell you with complete certainty that "all the Chinese restaurants just happen to be closed for some reason" does not in any way suggest that racism isn't at play.

Can you even establish that they've been more hurt than other restaurants? I'll wait. You can't? That's what I thought, because this whole thing is a false narrative on par with the more-humorous myth that people aren't buying Corona beer because of the Corona virus.

Got treated to Subway tonight after pushing myself too hard to feel up to cooking.

I was promised a future Subway 'pass', and I saved it for a push cleaning day. Great call.

I still need to do the back yard, but after doing the cleaning and front yard my arms were having hella tremors. I hate how they do that, far too easy tbh. Push mowers are hell, kids.

Picked up PF Changs tonight, I had to go into the restaurant to pick up my order because there was a minor problem with curb side pick up

They didn't seem to mind and were more than happy to see a customer

I just wish they were closer (1 hour drive there, 1 hour drive back)

If I'm going to be hiding in my house in self-quarantine to try and limit the amount of contact I have with other humans, the absolute last thing I want is someone else preparing my food. Since this started, I basically self-banned all fast food, take out, and even stuff like premade meals at my local grocery store or getting cold cuts in their deli.

Fortunately I'm one of those rare few miracle individuals who is actually capable of cooking their own meals (and it's easier than ever when you've got extra free time from not going out), so I don't really miss it all that much.

"I called six Chinese places before finding one that was open" does not in any way suggest that Chinese places aren't suffering from slower business than others. Tacking on "which is about on par with my efforts to order from other restaurants," however, makes your point perfectly (albeit in the form of a subjective anecdote that's prone to confirmation bias, but that's the best we're likely to do regardless of which side you're coming from). You should have started with that instead of waiting for somebody to point out that you didn't actually say what you wanted to say.

No, the point of mentioning calling six Chinese places was to show that I -- like many Americans -- want Chinese food, but the availability is sketchy. The reason why the availability is low should be self-evident to anybody who doesn't use "racism!" as an excuse not to think, although in your defense the media was largely complicit in creating that false narrative when its reporters almost certainly knew better which it did for --- survey says --- PROFITS!
