For every else there's no wrong answer to how you might try to get to an area, but Mount Hylia only has one way to fight the cold. Cooking. And you have to wander around the mountain to even find a pot after you see spicy peppers in the log cabin. Plus it doesn't even have all the tutorials. You still have to find the battle tutorial after you leave the mountain. A better Zelda first level will likely, in my eyes, be the Forsaken Fortress. It gives such a different feel for a Zelda game, being Link in an environment he's not ready for and even topping it off with showing that even with a sword, he's powerless in the grand scheme of things. Then it becomes a place you return to to show how much you have grown on this journey. --- I'll just go back to gifs. Off the top of my head you either get the coat early by cooking or you use cooking directly for cold resistance (and get the coat at the top).
