A few of you guys who have been doing this for a while (like me) might really have to think back.

All these years, and I think Sandbag > Magus might still be mine.

I haven't done any contests prior to 2011 IIRC, but Squirtle > Cloud is probably it.

I didn't think much of it at the time besides "Well obviously pokmon is going to dominate", but it seems like such a far-fetched pick now that I doubt I would have had the guts to take it nowadays.

...instead, I took Charizard to win his division this year, killing my bracket sure was fun.

I'm definitely proudest of picking Sonic > Crono 2006, still my favourite contest match ever

Maybe not my best upset pick statistically but that would likely be one I don't give a shit about. Sonic > Crono just made sense to me and damn did it pay off even as everyone was doubting Sonic.

Same here it was only my second or third contest and it was still bafflign that some game called Chrono Trigger was that popular on that site where I had previously heard no one talk about the gmae before

Sonic > Crono is one I would have loved to have. Props to the guys ballsy enough to pick it. I THINK Jakyl had that one on his way to the contest win, but I know he had most of success from going all-in on Snake.

Oh thanks Xuxon, I forgot about that one. Yeah, it's up there for sure.

I also banked big on the Pokemon in 2013 and had both Squirtle > Cloud and Mewtwo > Vincent.

None felt as good as Sandbag > Magus, though.

unfortunately, while i had SMRPG > RE4 for the majority of the time predictions were open, i wussed out in the end. which i think leaves me with Auron > Sonic as the best pick i've ever made. because it not only required Sandbag > Magus but wasn't even the favorite among people who picked Sandbag > Magus.

2005: Ness over CJ.

2007: Taking Ryu to get to round 4 as well as Master Chief to get to the semi's, though I expected him to get 2nd place (not first) the round before.

2008: I didn't participate in the guru, so I can't remember for sure, but I believe I picked Mewtwo to make it to round 4.

And... that's about it as far as major upsets go. Sadly. Granted, I'm not much of a risk-taker.

Actually, I should probably bring up another of my picks.

Match #83 (R2) 24 Glorious Hours

Xenoblade Chronicles - 87 (44.16%)
DK Country 2 - 17 (8.63%)
Super Mario Maker - 53 (26.90%)
Fire Emblem Awakening - 40 (20.30%)

Only time I've been in the right when at least 90% of Gurus messed up. I could honestly extend that to having that entire division perfect, since literally half the Round 1 matches were called incorrectly by at least 40% of gurus, two of them being outright Guru upsets. But I'll stick with the R2 match where the correct pick was the least popular choice to win the fourpack and I got it.

I'd have to think a little, but Sub-Zero > Master Chief immediately came to mind. I also had Sonic > Crono in 2006. I had Melee winning Division 128. I had Ryu to the Quarterfinals over Bowser and Auron in 2007. I had Auron > Sonic in 2008. I had FFX in the finals in 2009. I had Squall > Auron and Big Daddy > Ness in 2010. I had Halo 3 > Sunshine in GotD (also got Brawl > Melee and KH2 > KH1 right). I had Wrex winning his match in 2013. I had Mass Effect > Galaxy 2 in 2015. Tifa > X this year probably qualifies, too.

Man, I was so close on Squall winning the Devil Division, too.

I don't think I've ever taken any truly risky picks in the later rounds of contests during previous contests. My brackets usually don't take many risks and tend to be more similar to the cookie bracket.

In GotD, I had Morrowind > Warcraft III where the winner only had 27% of the Gurus on board, but that was only a round 1 match.

In this contest, I do have Crono > Cloud in both Legends and the Loser Bracket, so that could be my best pick of all-time if it works out.

Probably Melee winning 128?

My Best Game Ever bracket was pretty solid... Top 10 before it went to crazy town with SMB3 > CT because I thought I needed an upset back then. Starcraft > Halo and SMRPG > SF2 and probably a couple of others.

I dunno, does Zelda > Squall here count? Think I had MM > GSC in GotD but I'm not certain and I also forget how debated that was pre-contest.

You mean G/S? G/S was a very heavy favorite in the Guru. Literally 2/3 of them had it winning.

also looking at the matchup stats I'm kind of stunned by how heavy of a favorite MGS4 was to win its division

well I guess it makes sense after its 2009 run but I had MGS3 there so I guess I can brag about that one too
