like that's nothing to say pokemon needs to go realistic or anything it's just an awesome concept and I'm loving to see it officially and a live-action movie is pretty well *the* opportunity to shoot for it

A big plus is that they're trying to be faithful to the series. I mean, they even gave Jigglypuff her marker from the anime. It's not like other adaptions where the director is completely clueless about the source material coughdragonballcough.

There was this one time where the director infamously referred to a bunch of Eeveelution cosplayers as Pikachu cosplayers. He did this while on stage during the Pokemon World Championships trying to promote the movie. He has other staff members to bail him out when actually making the movie but he definitely left a bad impression on me when he did that.

With that said, this trailer looked great.

This actually looks potentially decent, but Warner Bros. really needs to move this to a better release date than May 11th - just one week after Avengers 4 (for now), two weeks before Aladdin, and not really catching notable holidays (school or otherwise) anywhere in the world.

Yeah, I expected something along the lines of Speed Racer (which is dope as fuck but still). Really love the setting and the look of the pokemon, realistic but still a hint of cartooniness. I've seen some dumping on the looks of them but I think it works perfectly.

You guys think this movie looks good? Part of the charm of Pokemon is that they DON'T talk, can only say their name.

Yeah, and now they have a movie where a talking Pokemon takes the piss out of Pokemon. For kids it's super fun and cool, and for adults who grew up with it, it's funny because we can look and see how dumb and silly Pokemon are and look at all of these jokes making light of our super serious hobby we had.

I love the idea of this movie. It's the best take they could do of it. If they played it straight, nobody would give a shit. But they're making it as ridiculous as possible and that just makes me happy.

I love the Pikachu because he reminds me of an old stuffed pikachu doll I had as a child that was completely fuzzy/furry and it looks the exact damn same as he does here.

(... I used to kick that pikachu around the apartment all day)

although this was back when pikachu was still fat, not his modern slim design

I will say I've never been a fan of pokemon. The only game in the series I have played for any more than an hour or so is Magikarp Jump and I have never watched the other movies / cartoons...

...and after all that I will say based on the trailer, that looks like it may even end up as one of the best video game based movies ever. Not a lot of competition for that title, sure, but it's still got me somewhat interested in it, which I never would have expected.

Apparently the trainers aren't celebrities in this world. They don't even get mentioned on the promotional posters. The pokemon aren't celebs either. Those are the generic species names. It's the equivalent of something like "Bear vs. Tiger", which is kinda cool in it's own way, but a lot more trashy and exploitative than I think they're going for

Also 16 pokedollars is extremely cheap. You could go to 20 of these shows for the price of a can of lemonade

saw this yesterday but didn't see the topic until today. it looks pretty cool. I don't think I ever could have guessed they'd be making a movie that was anything like this, and it's nice to be surprised by something for once. the trailer presents this concept in a way that is way more appealing than it would sound if you just told me they were making the movie and vaguely described it, and so I'm glad I watched this before anyone tried to explain it to me.

If you go to the official movie website you can take a close up look at the movie poster and find a ton of hidden details. I think I can see Mew's silhouette in the top left.

I kinda wonder what the Japanese reaction to this has been. This is by far the biggest western-made Pokemon product ever released and it's very western in terms of the new design of the Pokemon, the humour, the writing, the actors.

So yeah I'd be really interested to see what the response has been like in Japan

Looks funny, but I don't know about those Pokemon designs. They look like one of those creepy "hyper-realistic" renderings of cartoon characters. I wish they had gone with 2D characters instead, like in Roger Rabbit.
