Actually, if there's a Second Chance contest, that probably means there's no Battle Challenge this year. I can't imagine they'll have three separate contests for prize money.

Not sure why everyone is saying this is the end of the Noble Nine. The format obviously can't work with more than 8 characters, and no series/game in that group has more than 1 representative. It's whatever.

Indeed. If we moved the characters around in the loser's bracket, it would be much more interesting. Not that I would know the best way to do that....

But the bracket overall is great! THANK YOU for running another character contest with 1-on-1 matches!

I'm going to float a theory. What if rematches actually predicated new results? Like, people saw the way one match played out and said, "Nah, look, here's what we're really gonna do..."

Like, as strange as it sounds, I could actually see Link losing in the grand finals if everyone banded together against him, even if it was a N9'er he defeated once already.

That would happen if

a) the original match was super close

b) there's a rally or rally spillover that affects future matches

But what about if the results of the first match causes the rally?

If not Link in the finals, consider it for one of those early top 16 matches. Like, imagine Pikachu manages to get the better of Mega Man, and then gets trounced by Link. Mega Man takes care of, say, Vivi, and then squares off against Pikachu again. I could see the board coming out and defending him against Pokefear. OR, if it goes the other way and MM wins the first one, I could see the registered users riding in support the rat.

Maybe a better version would be if Sans actually pulls together some strength and wins his division. Sans vs Sonic might result in a rally deciding the first match, and then the board rearing up for the rematch, or the site dumpstering Sans and then a rally mounts after that to keep him alive.

One more variation: Snake could lose to Mario, and then rise up to win in the rematch because people would rather see him in the finals than another Link/Mario SFF-fest. Especially if Mario loses in the WB finals.

I dunno. At the very least, this possibility of the door swinging the other way on the rematch simply because the voters remember the first results and are responding to it is reason enough for me to want to tiptoe around those LB matches very carefully.

The bigger factor, which is being overlooked, is that there's going to be a break for Thanksgiving. That's time for the rallies to cool off, or be forgotten about.

There will be a Guru contest, don't worry about that. Ngamer doesn't put up the topic until we get closer to the bracket entry deadline. You probably won't see a Guru topic until we get down to the final 7 days of the bracket entry phase.

Anyways bracket setup is pretty good. Hopefully next character contest we can finally remove dumb restrictions though? I mean youve allowed non-characters (L Block), game versions of a real person (Hitler) and characters who didnt originate from video games to be in character contests so could we please get characters who have actual legit good games and stuff now like Batman? Kinda stupid his games are allowed to be in Best Game contests, but the character is banned from character contests.

A lot of us would love to see the field opened up to anybody who has been in a video game. I just dont really get why some characters are allowed even if theyre not even remotely close to being a character at all. It makes it feel like the rules/eligibility are just whatever you feel like at the time because theres no real consistency to what is or isnt allowed.

Honestly he isnt guaranteed to win on this site. I mean Link beat Santa on fucking Christmas or Christmas Eve. Spider-Man would probably need lots of outside votes to win still and if the doors were open to everybody he might not even go far at all. I mean they could allow all game characters in and then still do stuff like R1 Batman vs Spider-Man, R1 match 2 Darth Vader vs Cartman to flush them out early anyways if they felt like it

Actually having a split bracket like that wouldn't be a bad idea at all. Have all the video game characters on one, and then the non-gaming characters on the other. And then maybe have the top four of each compete in a final bracket. Could definitely make things a lot harder to predict.

If they do that then they should ONLY allow ones that have appeared in a video game at least once. It should also be ones who had their own game instead of a team thing like a Justice League game.

Uh, the Winners Bracket doubles points each round. The WB Finals is 64 points. Loser Bracket is 8 points all round.

Right, I get that, but azuarc's post implies he thinks that all the preceding rounds are stuck at 8 points. That's only true for the Loser Bracket. The Winner/Normal/Main Bracket follows the 8, 16, 32, 64 progression as usual.

That is, also, a really odd decision on Allen's part, imo. I understand why capping matches at a certain point value might make sense, but to do it on one bracket and not the other does not.
