Alright, let me sell you on why you should be nominating Rathalos from Monster Hunter.

Rathalos is essentially the Pikachu of the Monster Hunter franchise - while it may not be everyone's favourite monster, it's pretty much the face of the series. When you see Rathalos, you think Monster Hunter. Generally showing up in the latter half of a rank, it's a fairly strong monster that tends to provide good equipment, especially when you start talking about its Azure and Silver subspecies, the latter of whom is one of the toughest fights in the series.

The King of the Skies would make a good entrant into the character battle for a couple of reasons. First of all, Monster Hunter has never been represented in a GameFAQs character battle. Second, it has the potential to be...maybe not strong, but at least not fodder. With Monster Hunter World releasing this year and being a big seller that remains one of the more popular games on this site, and Generations Ultimate coming out for Switch just two weeks ago, the series is the most popular (outside Japan) as its ever been, and Rathalos in particular is getting some good press - the MHW/FFXIV crossover event saw it appearing in FFXIV, and its been confirmed to appear as a boss/assist trophy in Smash Ultimate. So Rathalos is on people's minds these days as a cool dude. He's unlikely to get in without a nomination rally of sorts since MH isn't a series you think of when you think character battle, but he can probably put on a better showing than most characters that need rallies to get in.

So that's why Rathalos is the kind of guy you should be trading one of those nominations for

Hector was a member of Dracula's evil forces. A great war occurred in Europe between Dracula and humanity. Trevor Belmont was the one to defeat him, with the aid of Alucard, Grant and Sypha; but Dracula left a curse upon his death. Hector, however, being one of Dracula's most important allies, betrayed him by renouncing to his own evil powers and letting Trevor win the war. Isaac, his best friend, was enraged by this and accused Hector's wife of witchcraft, which led to her death. Hector is now fueled by revenge, but this means he has to recover the powers he swore never to use again. He has the power to summon a variety creatures to aid him in battle, as well as using a wide array of weapons such as swords, spears, knuckles and axes, to name a few. Across his journey, he will encounter people who will aid him to get rid of the curse that affects the land, as well as correcting his heart's motives towards his former best friend; he will also be having a constant rivalry with Isaac along the way -- Hector fighting for justice and Isaac fighting to revive Lord Dracula.

Hector is not your typical whipping hero trying to defeat Dracula. Having him in CBX could shake things up, as well as adding variety to the much needed Castlevania representation, since he is arguably one of the most fleshed out characters in the entire series.

Can't speak for Lords of Shadow. I liked Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness but your results may vary. They've got some appeal as second rate 3D hack and slash action games. If that's not your cup of tea then you probably won't like em much.

He is basically a really bad, powerful guy, wanting to leave his evil past behind and be a good guy, but struggling with his own emotions of anger and frustration. He represents the human nature at its finest, and I totally identify myself with him since I myself left my past behind with God's help. I love his looks (the best design I've seen from Ayami Kojima), voice (props to Crispin Freeman), battle skills, magic powers, and rivalry.

The only character above him on my list is Cecil from FFIV. Both have a similar backstory, and I'd love to see more people knowing more about him. That's why I'd love to see him in a contest.

An issue I've always had with Cecil is he feels more like a guy who has done bad things, and at the point of the game starting he's already at the point of moving on. The change to Paladin is more cosmetic than anything, as all his meaningful character development has already taken place before the game's start.

I always thought FFIV would be so much cooler if we actually got to play through saccing Mysidia, and maybe a few other more borderline heinous jobs as build up, before heading to the mist cave.

So I guess what I'm asking is how much of the evil past do we see on screen?

Pretty much none, since that's his backstory, but through the game he wants to kill Isaac to fulfill his revenge. The problem is, he has to regain his "evil" powers to stand a chance against him, so that's exactly what he does. (Can't elaborate much, though, since I'd be getting into spoiler territory.)

She's the leader of the club of cute girls you can date. Actually, she's aware she's in a video game and despaired because she wanted to love and be loved by a 'real' person, which is you, the player, so she ruins the lives of her digital friends whom she's aware don't really exist and tries to manipulate you into loving her.

I want her in purely because it'll lead to good fourth wall-breaking match pics.

Alright my dude I tell you what, I'm going to pitch the only one I have much enthusiasm for on my list. But I'm going to do it in a pretty brief concise way that sums up why I like the character so much rather than going full salesman with a backstory dump. I'll hold myself to the standard I held you. Given your nomination, that will probably be okay as you're probably familiar with him anyway.

That man is Richter Belmont (Castlevania: Rondo of Blood)

Richter's always been my favorite Castlevania character. And realistically, while I could write paragraphs about him if I needed to bloat the word count, it boils down to two things.

First, his gameplay in post Rondo of Blood/Dracula X games is just... really fun. Like this dude is so mobile between his uppercut, dash attack, and slide jump. I played the hell out of Symphony of the Night, and unlike a lot of people who have played it, most of my gameplay came through Richter mode. I've done no item crash speed runs, no item crash completion runs, no holds barred speed runs, no life pickup runs. You name it. He may not have the fun leveling and item management that Alucard has, but he just controls really well. One of the best controlling characters in gaming. Just awesome to fight stuff with.

Richter mode in Portrait of Ruin is about as good. He's a bit less quick there but he's still a blast, and again, the source of most of my playtime in the game. And let's not forget Harmony of Despair. Pretty sure you could throw a Richter mode in any Castlevania and it'd be my favorite way to play it. I'd kill for a Metroidvania type game where Richter is actually the main character and uses the equipment system instead of just ignoring it and being a badass.

Secondly, his dialogue and voice acting in Symphony of the Night. I love the ultra camp melodrama the guy has oozing out of everything he says in that game. You've heard the "DIE MONSTER, YOU DON'T BELONG IN THIS WORLD" exchange between him and Dracula in the intro to the game many a time, I'm sure, but his dialogue throughout the entire game is amazing, and his role in the game was unique too even if, SotN spoilers, most of his entertaining role was a result of being possessed by THE DARK PRIEST SHAFT.

Course now I feel like you'd probably already nominated him even without my trading for it, since he's had a bit of a rally here. I suppose I have one other entry on my list I could pitch if you want to hear me ramble about another character you're less likely to know.
