Yeah free stuff is fine, but this being implemented doesnt give me much confidence in the state of the game if theyre looking for additional revenue streams via advertising. Like crazy said, either theyre struggling, or just being extra greedy.

People are complaining about it already though, before we even get to see it in action. Who cares if theyre trying to make extra money? Theres nothing bad for the players here, and people are grabbing heir torches and pitchforks because Gumi is daring to give us free stuff that you dont even need to collect if you dont want to. Its not like you have to watch an ad to play the game now, but thats how some are treating this.

If you feel the need to be that outraged over every little thing because you hate Gumi that much, why bother to keep playing at all?

It's the precedent it sets that grinds my gears. It opens the door for ads, gives the idea that we can ignore the problems by being given free stuff, etc.

And, frankly, the only thing keeping me playing is Fryevia's 7* ( and maybe Christine's). If it's terrible, I'll sell my account in a heartbeat.

It kind of cheapens the game in my eyes. Makes it feel like some random trash slot machine game where you can watch an add to get free coins every day.

I dunno. I dont really think Gumi needs defending just because this is technically free stuff. If the place you worked treated you like garbage for most of 2 years, would you be excited when they gave you a $5 Starbucks gift card?

How many downloads does FFBE have?

FGO of the big apps I've played hasn't had the need to add video ads. They have way worse rates than FFBE true, but there seems to be less overall garbage you end up with.

Love Live isn't enough of a big hit to really matter, but even that hasn't made me watch videos just to get more of an in game currency.

This community is already shit to begin with. If they forced everybody to watch a 30 second ad before they could play, the players who are already on the fence about quitting (which seems to be most of them) would mostly leave. That would be completely moronic of them to do.

How are you so certain that they are going to start requiring people to watch an ad to play the game? Just because Gumi has (and will continue) to make stupid decisions doesnt mean that theyre going to do something that bad. If you have such a low opinion about the dev and the game itself, why bother to stick around? You're not getting any benefit if you hate them so much that you think they'll do something that destructive to their playerbase.

This and one other thing: the core game itself. I love how the game plays, with a nice strike of strategy and ease, the sprites are awesome, the music is decent and the story is better than most. Even the progression is decent,barring 7*.

However, all the baggage surrounding it: the lack of communication, the poor support and bugs, the unchecked greed, etc... that is what drags it down for me.

The core game is great, it's just now being wrapped in horrible crap.

Ads in gacha games aren't that rare these days. I've seen a couple with them. It's only a real problem if it gets invasive about it.

However the games that do have them, have had them from the start. Brave Exvius suddenly adding them out of the blue is odd. It does pretty well in the Top Grossing Charts, so I wouldn't even say that it needs them. So yeah, this is just Gumi wanting more money via ad revenue.

Them wanting to make more money via ad revenue is not a problem. The ads are completely optional. It's not like that game I used to play on my ipad years ago where you had 2 sources of premium currency, 1 per levelup, or watching an ad daily for one. It's another source of free stuff that is in no way required, and just takes a little bit of time. If you don't want to watch an add for a small amount of lapis or an nrg pot, just don't watch it. I realize Lens doesn't seem upset about it, this paragraph is not directed at you, but at the people who seem to think Gumi is being evil for putting completely optional ads into the game.

I can't speak for this game in particular as I don't know how it's implemented, but I think the problem with ad based rewards in mobile games on principle is they're so paltry it almost makes you feel annoyed by them offering it to you. Like, hey, thanks for the chance at 10 lapis-- why couldn't you just give me 10 lapis as a login bonus if you're going to be that cheap.

They also generally want you to watch ads way more often than you should be expected to to maximize the potential rewards. That of course is Exvius's MO with their plethora of recharges they force you to manage simultaneously, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the ad refresh multiple times daily. Make an ad based reward occur once a week and give you a bigger bonus, more people would see it as a reward than as an attempt to try and use you as an ad revenue generating drone.

Heres my opinion on it: I dont care.

Im with crazy. I have fun with the game itself, the opportunity for a little extra lapis for watching ads doesnt bother me in the slightest.

Im glad it wasnt in the game from the start, because then they could/would have taken it into consideration for giveaways, bonuses, etc.

Adding it now is just a free opportunity for lapis for us, purely if we feel like it, and money for the developer to keep them supporting it. Win-win.

Ad based rewards are often more akin to your boss coming over to your cubicle, unwrapping a few roll of pennies, dumping them all over the floor of your cubicle, and saying "here's $5 for as appreciation for your service, all you need to do is pick them up!" while at the same time your company has some sort of promotion with coinstar where they gain 2% of all service fees gained through penny exchanges.

If you pick the pennies up, 5 hours later your boss comes over, notices you have no pennies on the floor, and says "whoa, I see you liked the pennies! have some more!" and dumps another roll of pennies in your cubicle. You pick them up, and this continues every 5 hours, except when you sleep and come back to work and there's only one pile of pennies, not two.

Eventually you think "well, maybe I should stop picking these up so he'll stop dumping the pennies here" but then you've still got the pennies there, practically begging to be picked off the floor, you know?

Maybe. Haven't really had a long break from the game in a long while( last time was from dealing with school things, I believe.)

Could just be burnout with all the crap and negativity going on. Still dislike the wheel even if it is free stuff, but I may be coloring it darker than usual due to burnout.

We'll see after Hyoh's event; maybe the plot's decent enough to full run, at least.

Realistically, though, that's not how these things work. 30 seconds is not an interval you can really successfully multitask to any productive end with. That's the excuse people who want to rationalize wasting more and more of their day with pointless distracting timesinks make to themselves. You're not outright watching the ad, but you are wasting some amount of time/attention, even partially, waiting for the stupid ad to finish.

It's not as ridiculous as the penny analogy, no, but analogies are often exaggerated to illustrate the point. It's an annoying thing that adds yet another micromanaged resource the game requires you to "spend" in a game that is already packed to the brim with a bunch of staggered time sinks like that in any given day, and it's difficult to just ignore it because the rewards are being dangled there. Possible, sure, but being annoyed that it was added isn't unreasonable.

I need some advice for Scorn of the Surging Menace, specifically the last fight. Fina simply cant keep up Divine Veil, Reraise on herself and Basch, heal and cure status effects, and change up her pattern if things wind up changing. Basch soaks up the magic damage, but he always bites it after Cursed Black Sphere, and Fina always dies thanks to the AoE physical attacks. Im running:

LM Fina: Heals and elemental resists from Carbunkle
Basch: Cover tanking whatever is needed.
M Ramza: Provoke tanking, critical for the last fight thanks to the hybrid damage ST abilities
Tidus: Water resist, buffs, and backup MP regen
Orlandeau x2: Damage

Im toying with the idea of bringing in Yuna in place of Tidus to be a backup healer, but Im worried losing the buffs, small as they are, will slow down damage. The main problem is the physical attacks that are just wrecking me thanks to the inability to keep breaks up, and I dont know how to make Fina tanky enough to take the blows without dying. And bringing in another healer will only exacerbate the problem.

I'm guessing you don't have CG Nichol? If Tidus is just there for Water Resist, buffs, and MP regen, Nichol can do all of that better, with extra stuff like some additional healing, mitigation, etc.

Which friend are you bringing, the second Orlandeau?

That's correct, I have not been blessed with CG Nichol. I am using a friend Orlandeau, but I can swap in a Sephiroth for chaining instead. But CG Nichols are pretty rare, and I'm still not sure that would solve my issue with Fina constantly dying in the last fight.

Nichol's buffs are quite a bit better, but that could be an issue. What's your Fina's HP at, and how much do you think you'd need? I could set up either Fina or Nichol if you wanted to give it a try with one of them, if you have a Sephiroth you can use for a chaining partner.

She's at 6628 HP, 200 Def. I just found I had Mog's Wisdom on her because I thought she'd need the LB build-up, but that's not really necessary with how many opportunities I have to build LB crystals. I can now get her ot 7472, so maybe if I have Nichol's strong HP regen I can get through the fight.

Are we friends? I'm not sure. My in-game name is Servillo.

I'm pretty sure we are, assuming your IGN matches the PSN/NNID in your sig. Anything in particular you're looking for as far as Nichol goes? Right now I have him with 8,692 HP, 898 MP (enough refresh to keep going forever), with 575 spr, status immunity, and 2 sources of limit fill increase. He also has 110% Water resist.

I don't think he really needs anything special. Basch and Ramza should be taking most of the damage, and as long as he has the ability to survive the physical blows the demon throws his way, I should be good.

So downside is I didn't get to use your MS Nichol. But one did pop up on my list, and while it wasn't as tanky as yours, it got me through the fight. Hoooooly crap I can see why he's so damn good. Made that fight immensely easier! Got all the missions too, so I never have to do it again.

In hindsight, what I really should've done was bring Zargabaath instead of Tidus. He had the elemental protection, MP buffing, and damage reduction that I would've needed (although in lesser forms than MS Nichol). Ah well, lesson learned. And it only took...I dunno, half a dozen tries?
