The online service is kind of a joke compared to other paid services, even at only $20/year. Having the only means of backing up data being the cloud saves from that service is also not very good, and it's taking far too long to give it an internet browser (to say nothing of the lack of Netflix, though that's Netflix's fault).

That said, it's still an awesome system with a very solid library and hating on it for those flaws is kind of nitpicky. But if you wanna hate, those are good starting points.

They gave us a metroid prime 4 logo over a year ago and couldn't be bothered to get a fucking short clip together for E3

I've heard someone say they had their own way of backing up their saves, IIRC. Also, while they don't have Netflix, they do have Hulu. Just like the Wii U. I'm fine with that... But I know some people don't like(or hate or don't have) Hulu...

The lack of new games is disappointing, the fact it's been out for a year and a half and we still don't have a Virtual Console (and apparently never will) is inexcusable, friend codes are literally still a thing in 2018.

That's all I've got. The Switch has more potential than any console I've ever seen (in my opinion), but Nintendo isn't fully utilizing it.

The price. At least here in Australia, it retails for $470. That equates to about $350 USD.

To play with four friends? $120 dollars for a set of joy-con.
Want a charging dock for those new joy-con? $50 for a 4-dock charger.
How about a joy-con grip that charges because they were too cheap to include one in the box for you? $40.
How about a proper controller? Pro controller is $100.

Again these are just Australia's prices but I doubt other countries fare any better.

I love my Switch but that kind of price gouging can feel ridiculous.

My only gripe is the controller prices. I don't give a fuck if you can link an amiibo with it, $80 for joy con and $70 for pro is ridiculous. I don't want a corded controller either.

Eh, I'd say the balance has been pretty good, especially getting past the first year. Given that the Switch has already outsold the WiiU, it's guaranteed that there are Switch owners who never had a WiiU to play any of the games being ported, so porting them just makes sense. It hasn't really been all that many, either.

Apparently it needs to be charged somewhat for the dock to work. Mine was dead this morning and I put it in the dock and it wouldn't turn on until it had some decent amount of charge.

I was going to buy a Switch today.

I decided not to, because for $300, it's a piece of fucking shit. The screen is plastic, the controllers are defective half the time, the plastic cracks from the heat over time, it bends over time, the joycons fit into the sides very flimsily, the charging port is on the bottom, there's no auto-rotate, there's no internet browser or YouTube. The dock is also a piece of trash, the whole thing is a prototype.

Nintendo's online policy and Virtual Console is also a joke, and I'm getting tired of their games anyway.

I'll buy the new model if it comes out before Smash.

My apartment's currently set up to have a single HDMI cord running to the TV that I swap between the WiiU and Switch as needed. As it stands, I use the WiiU for Netflix, but it'd be kind of nice to not have to swap the cable back and forth. Beyond that, given my lack of a smartphone, it'd be nice to have it available for portable use, since it's more convenient than a laptop in that regard.

In practice, I personally wouldn't end up using it all that much, but there's definitely reason to want Netflix on the Switch. I understand Netflix dragging their heels on developing the app when the Switch was new, given that there was no guarantee it would be successful enough to be worth the effort (especially after the WiiU), but it's done a good enough job so far that they should get on that.

I used the browser on the WiiU on a number of occasions to look stuff up for the games I was playing. For something like Monster Hunter that has a lot of external resources to reference, it saved me having to have a laptop setup nearby, or run between rooms to use my desktop. Already I can say that would have been handy on the Switch for Xenoblade 2, to say nothing of using it as a general-purpose browser while out and about.

Does it *need* it? Of course not. It's a game system, all it *needs* is to play games. However, other conveniences are, well, convenient, and these are extra functions that have been standard on consoles for over a decade. It's really not unreasonable to expect that they get a browser out, nor to want them to do so.

Why would it have auto-rotate? What possible purpose would that serve when every program for it is designed for a single aspect ratio and everything but the touch controls become unusable if you rotate it?

The big ones that stopped me from buying:

$300 for a version that's going to be obsolete in the near future
No external saves, tied to system and cloud service. Punishing users because of pirates/hackers.
Paid online. Can't speak for the service itself because I haven't experienced it.
Stock battery life (though high capacity can be dangerous and battery tech hasn't advanced that much)

The lack of a glass screen is disappointing but there are screen protectors that you can buy.
Not sure how I feel about docking it for the television. I heard the games make compromises or something?

I've seen polls that confirm a lot of people deal with defects, and I'll dig them up later.

Otherwise I'm passing because of the plastic screen poor design, and yeah, the switch should be able to auto rotate along with taking the controllers from any orientation. At least then you could charge it while it's propped up on a table.

I mean, I guess the online infrastructure is still non-existent, like lack of a dashboard or anything, but the connection speed and great, and the in-game online portals for Splatoon and MK8 at least are just fine.

The online store has a bafflingly bad layout...why it's not divided between the Virtual Console for retro games and indie/Nintendo new originals is annoying. It's also odd that since going gung-ho in offering a ton of retro options with the Wii, they since seem to give less of a shit anymore. Hardly any retro Nintendo classics are on there. Really weird since it's a year and some change after launch.

No Netflix or access to Amazon Prime and whatnot is a non-issue for me, since I have like 12 devices that can access that stuff, but since the Switch is highly portable, it really does seem like an odd admission. It would also be better for plane rides if you could buy and download films onto the storage to watch.

That's kinda it. It's sleek, fun, and has a good lineup.

I just don't know why you'd want the switch for Netflix/Internet browsing. A phone, a smart tv app or a regular old computer will definitely do them all better and nearly everyone in the world has one of those three things mentioned above.

Only needs about 1%. I sometimes run mine down at work. To the point where it auto enters sleep mode(Around 1% or so). And I'm able to play immediately when I get home if I want...

They seem to be better docked. I play mostly portable because I'm either out or using my TV for something. But I do like playing it on the TV because it seems better, I guess...

Also, for the whole internet thing, you would still have to be connected, right? Like to Wi-Fi somewhere?
