Ok, great, we should ban gay conversion, but there exist people who believe that gay conversion shouldn't be banned by the government, and that is a political view- so even if you view it as solely ethical, there are others that don't, and there have been politicians who have campaigned against, or at least refused to sign on to, legislation banning gay conversion.

So, yes, I believe that some people who have certain opposite political views as me are awful people.

What I'm saying is that 1) They're terrible people for making an ethics issue political and 2) they're even worse for not thinking something so immoral and unethical shouldn't be banned.

This is all a product of the Social Media Scrubbing of 2016. After we saw the Casual Revolution of 2007 end in the 2015/2016/2017 transitional period, the new era began. This era is all about using people's past during the Casual Revolution against them as the social media world becomes more or less fully saturated (twitch, youtubers, twitter feeds, facebook pages).

"Theres a Trump tweet for everything", "James Gunn's tweets from early twitter era", current MLB, NBA, NFL players from when they were 15 saying dumb stuff, etc. Your political angle might get the occasional win, but it will also get the occasional loss as EVERYONE said dumb shit when twitter was starting its growth period (again, beginning around 2007). And the real question is, are you doing it to improve the fight against something like racism, or because you are jealous of your lack of success and trying to bring others down? Especially celebrities as they have put themselves more out there during the Casual Revolution.

It doesn't matter that the dude apologized a long time ago when this was found out and that he hasn't done it since then. He's apparently not allowed to reform. I can't fault a person for making a significant positive change, but apparently a lot of people can. If we bring up anything that Robert Down Jr. did in his past when he was on drugs, should that still be grounds to punish him now that he's been clean and reformed?

It's just discouraging, and especially sad.

And as others have pointed out, Disney has no problem letting a guy like Johnny Depp abuse his wife and still be their lead in the Pirates movies. As Jakyl said, it's just when people are looking.

Very disappointed in this. The jokes are offensive and unfunny, but also 8-10 years old by someone who made his name on offensive schlock. He was a Troma writer, this was his thing. The fact that Disney fired someone who they entirely knew had made and previously apologised for these jokes because of an entirely artificial, politically motivated outcry is sad. Especially nonsensical since they hired him on the basis of his past works.

What is really troubling though, is that with the Fox purchase Disney now controls 40% of the industry, and since they said they severed ties with him it means he is effectively blacklisted from half the industry. Insane.

This, the only legit outrage firing I've personally seen was when the Subnautica devs fired their music guy for making edgy jokes and being a general shit lord. The majority of it is simply, them not wanting to deal with a small but vocal amount of people talking shit to them online.

Admittedly, if you discount Walt Disney himself, there is an obvious disconnect between Disney's Public Image and those jokes, but I'll be damned if they didn't already know about them.

Eh, don't draw a false equivalency. Yeah, the left has tried and succeeded in getting some people fired recently (Bill O'Rilley jumps to mind, and the me too campaign in general) but generally people with multiple claims of sexual assault and often sexual assault lawsuits that were settled out of court.

Also, most of these were NOT politically motivated--if anything I'd guess that a majority of the "me too" targets were left leaning or democrats. Maybe you can call Bill O'Rilley's firing politically motivated, but the left at least is not hypocritical here.

The left has also tried and...usually failed to get people fired for really distasteful comments (Laura Ingraham for her comments about the Parkland shooters--she still has a job and did not in fact get fired). But these are generally comments made on air recently while doing her current job, and not twitter jokes from 10 years ago unrelated to current job.

Obviously yes, the left throws their own stones, but it's not manufactured the way this is. It's not like the left sees someone criticizing Obama, and reacts by digging through that person's old tweets looking for ways to get them fired.
