I will try to make this my last football take for a while, but the Vikings NEED to throw all the money in the world at Cousins. They have enough cap space, and Cousins by far the best option for QB next year and for at least the next few season in this armchair GM's opinion.
Some dumb idiot Vikings fans think that if they sign cousins, we won't be able to re-sign Barr, Kendricks, Diggs, and Hunter. Don't get me wrong I love all those players, but there's enough money to extended 3/4 of them AND Cousins.... And what's more important...a good linebacker, or a (arguably) top 10 QB?

The Broncos will get Cousins and then I'll get suckered into continuing to watch football and then by the end of the season I'll hate myself.

Maybe they won't, though I fully advocate going for him. Some people say he's not worth the money but that's just what it takes to get a QB these days. I think with QBs you should almost always pay up for a known commodity rather than cheap out on an unknown guy with upside, unless you're Browns-level far away from contending.

Is he the best FA QB since Manning? That sounds wrong but I can't remember anyone else. Of course I mean guys who are actually hitting the market. Well, Romo last year was better, but IIRC he didn't even get released before retiring.

He's definitely worth the money. You need a QB if you want to win. There have of course been exceptions, but QB is (probably?) the most important position in all of sports (honestly I'm not trying to be a dick by saying that, as a football fan. Correct me if I'm wrong).

I'll be excited to watch whatever team signs him. Cleveland could have a really interesting team, as well as Denver with Cousins.

This FA market for QBs is more interesting than usual. But yeah Kirk is def the best FA QB since Peyton. I say this as a Vikings fan who have been starved of a franchise QB since Culpepper (who was a franchise QB until he got hurt) and then before that...Tarkenton in the 70s.

Here are Kirk's stats in his 3 seasons as a starter. Really really good. And this is with a mediocre at best Washington team.

I don't think Cleveland would be very interesting considering he couldn't even make the playoffs consistently in Washington. But if the Browns had a nice draft it might be more interesting. They could get huge hauls for both the 1 and 4 picks in a QB-heavy class. We all know they'd screw them up though

Yeah Cleveland is more "on paper" than any other team. You cannot disregard that they went 0-16 and 1-15 the year before. Inexcusable.
But on paper, they have Josh Gordon, a good O line, a decent defense. Add Cousins to that, and "on paper ;)" we may have a not 0-16 team on our hands

The head of one of the biggest agencies of MLB players tweeted a thing about how players might be looking at a boycott of Spring Training or worse. It's like I said like a month ago, this offseason is too terrible and there's a really good chance we'll be looking at a strike soon. It has to be done thanks to these penny pinching owners.

He actually said that many GMs and club presidents they negotiate with have been lamenting a lack of funds available to them. Honestly, I don't know if this is a coordinated attack on free agency or if it's just the natural end result of the MLBPA giving away the farm in every new negotiation with the league, but it's really bad.

A lot of Clevelands losses this year were close games, too. Or at least competitive. I dont think they were getting blown out. Id have to double check to be sure, though.

Just looked, there were a few blowout losses but they did have a lot of close games.

You know what's the worst? "I just watch it for the commercials" people. No you fucking don't. It's okay to say that you don't really like football/you watch out of peer pressure. And if you really are willing to sit through four hours to watch commercials, you're an idiot. You can watch them on YouTube any time! And nowadays, the company itself uploads it ahead of time. Why do they even pay millions of dollars when they can do it for free?

I know the allure of being a Super Bowl ad is how they get attention, but what if a company were to upload a Super Bowl ad on YouTube with no intent of actually airing it during the SB? Are there laws against that? Because it sounds pretty genius to me.

Also, super bowl ads show up on TV for months afterward and then you'll be wishing you didn't have to see them anymore.

This is maybe the truest thing you've ever posted. The "I love the commercials" people are without fail very disappointed in the low quality every year. They're never funny and they've never been funny

I think we're going to reach a point where ads become standard in streaming. People might throw a fit at first but they'll get used to it.

Well with sports and other live events, even if you stream it now you'll either get ads or a bunch of dead time.

Break-free sports would be fucking awesome. The stadium is already basically a giant billboard and every segment of the broadcast has a sponsor. Isn't that enough money without dedicated commercial breaks

Redskins considering screwing Cousins one last time by tagging him so they can trade him. Apparently he can screw them right back by refusing to sign the tag so he'll count against the cap but not be able to be traded.

I was at my regular watering hole last night and there were a bunch of Pats fans. They seemed like okay enough fellows, but being a passive aggressive Midwesterner I judged them from my bar stool. This is a place with a very good craft beer selection, but they only ordered Bud/Miller Light (from cans!!!). They also set their drinks on the bar shuffle board table (which is a big no-no) and spilled on it right before leaving. They had ridiculous accents too. I didn't really know that they could be so exaggerated outside of movies

It's been interesting as I haven't really seen any real Pats fans (other than bandwagoners). If I was a Bills fan or something I would probably hate them as much as the Cheeseheads (no offense SkynyrdRocker)

I want to see some more hardcore fans at the sports bars tonight to chuckle at (in good fun of course). ones that will actually bring a penalty flag and a challenge flag and throw them or wear a steve grogan jersey and try to justify how they aren't bandwagon fans and actually sat and watched through the years when the patriots sucked and don't pretend those years didn't exist.

Yeah there's been plenty walking around. Haven't seen many in restaurants/bars tho (mostly pats fans from what I've seen). A friend who works in the service industry said that all the Pats fans he's encountered have been really cool.

On Friday I went to lunch and walked by this bar which had a line half a block long. Apparently Barstool sports was having an event there and it seemed like the biggest douche fest you can imagine

Then you haven't seen the hardcore fans I've seen. How many jerseys of punters do you see people wearing? yeah, I've them only worn by the most diehard fans because Im not rocking a punter jersey no matter how awesome their coffin punting ability is. :P

There's like a 70% chance the Eagles go up like 14-3 immediately and then end up losing. We'll have to resist the urge to believe better than we have in the past. Unless the Pats win a blowout.

I realize there is rarely one reason for anything but what do you think is the main reason for declining NFL ratings? I think it's probably CTE but I'm starting to come around to the idea that the Patriots winning too much is a fairly significant factor too.

Highlight videos/RedZone existing, too many commercial breaks, too many replay reviews, etc. Okay, that's not one thing, but all of it boils down to the idea that nobody wants to sit through three to four hours of mostly bullshit when they realize they don't have to anymore.

The Patriots winning too much is more of a factor in the postseason. Like I'd watch the SB in a heartbeat if they weren't involved and I could just enjoy it without stressing over the outcome. But it doesn't make sense for that to be the reason to skip regular season games (although their success does add to the general malaise).

People don't want to pay that much for sports cable packages, and all of the NFL's streaming options suck.
