Got a dumb question. Are chips consumable items, or do you get them back when you put a new chip on a weapon? They seem consumable to me, but I havent seen anyone complain about this so I dont know.

They are consumables, but you get enough of them from drops it isnt really a huge issue.

I feel like field skills are worse for me than the gacha because I tend to care more about freely exploring stuff than I do completing all of the content.

230 Legendary Cores later my Blade collection is complete! It was 271 Cores total to get my last 2 Blades so my prediction of 200-300 turned out to be pretty good.

Even so, 230 cores to get my last Blade while under optimum setup is still pretty rough.

I guess I have been neglecting pulling more Rare Blades and completing the affinity charts of the ones I do have more than anything. Only Pyra/Mythra, Dromarch and Brighid have nearly maxed out affinity charts. The rest are level 3-4 at best and mostly level 2s.

Love the game but I absolutely despise the Rare Blades gacha system. I haven't even pulled 10 Rare Blades from cores yet and I'm already tired of it. Merc missions are also absolute whack in that they are only there to waste time in your menu with slow as molasses progression. Field Skills however might be the worse of them all because it actively halts progression in some areas and that is an absolute no no in open-world games.

Apart from the super grindy nature of everything in the game (ironically levelling up feels the least grindy of these things), I'm absolutely having a blast with the game. The characters and story is great and it actually feels like a Xenoblade sequel.

Since I'm likely to be wrecking everything story-wise. Should I just beat the game and do post-game where it is supposedly easier to farm Legendary cores?

The monsters you can efficiently farm Legendary Cores from appear before you beat the game. However, the one I would recommend fighting doesn't spawn yet at the point in the game you are at.

Reeking Douglas is the boss I tend to see people talk about for post-game (late game?) core grinding.

Rex has that with that one story Blade you get. 5th is actually bad for smashing since the attack animation takes so long.

I actually never got around to trying that one. I ended up using Cloud Sea King Ken although I heard that Relentless Arduran is better.

Reeking Douglas didn't live up to the hype for me. It's kinda weak so you can fight it at a lower level. However, it's a bit too weak so you'll end up killing it and wasting time respawning it at higher levels and I already trained my team to Lv99. You also have to do a new Blade combo each time to seal its reinforcements. I tried measuring the rate at which I got Legendary Cores and found Cloud Sea King Ken to be much faster. Cloud Sea King Ken doesn't really hit that hard and has a large HP total so it takes a good 10 or so minutes before I need to respawn it again. For Cloud Sea King I liked using a Blade combo that ended with Wind to block Blowdown but it's optional.

Fifty ****ing Common Core Crystals and no Rare.

I think my luck may be worse than 5th.

Killing those Level 92 Deimos Saurus with Chain Attack has made me jump from level 80 to 92 in about an hour.

I don't think I have been this overpowered in a JRPG since Final Fantasy VIII or Final Fantasy XII.

Time to FINALLY get back to the story.

Yeah, those are probably the best enemies to fight for exp to reach Lv99. They give tons of exp and aren't too hard to beat even at a level disadvantage. I went from Lv84 to Lv99 in around 2 hours.

I got curious about that shining star chip mentioned earlier, and learned where they were. Had to kill a level 90 monster thing to get to it. Just barely managed at level 81/82 (had no healer, and my set up was only half crit-heal while the other half was gold chips for core hunting, so uh... not ideal).

But after getting them I don't feel like using them since no second effect or particularly high crit rate.

I think you want to get at least one of her stats to 99 before the others, since that unlocks some new quests for her.

The story is getting really really good now. The character interactions and group dynamic is surprisingly outstanding. You actually care about every single member in the group. As for the story, I want to know what happens next and the mystery shrouding it is very intriguing. This is what I want from a Xenoblade game.

This is the game I wanted 2 years ago that X never was.
