Pulled Kora on 5th and Overdrived her over to Nia, no regrets on that decision, what a great fit. Finally went back and got Sheba for 5th, another decision I'm very happy with. Their set up is only missing a final attack blade now!

Thanks for taking the time to type all that up. Im a little confused though. If were doing Driver combos, then why do the Blade elements matter?

Also its ok to use Salvage Mastery? I had seen people say not to use that.

before that last cut scene i pulled the loli thunder girl for Rex and some edgy dark japanese art style demon guy for nia

unsure how hlr hlr tnk will work for nia since it seems like i want to keep her with low aggro as much as possible

also kos mos is fucking awesome you guys

The elements matter simply due to the way the AI is programmed. It seems that if the AI can switch to a blade that has break that fits the 3rd element of the blade combo, it will. Well, I should say that if your team is my team then it will switch because I never put the time in to test other combinations. But I have a 100% success rate so something similar is definitely programmed in

I should note the method can fail if her break or your topple miss, but there's limited ways to deal with that. If it were actually an issue you'd want to equip dexterity items to those two characters, but it has never happened often enough for me to care

And yes I've had success with salvage mastery so I don't think it hurts. I tried taking boreas off and ran like 10 or so cylinders to check if it was hurting me on krabble drop rates or anything but it didn't appear to change

Salvage mastery hurts because it makes you more likely to spawn a chest. And you generally don't want to spawn chests if you get a pull that doesn't have a krabble.

My method is break with a lance on Rex, have 4th topple with a hammer, then Nia launch with knuckles, and Rex finish by switching to smash. 5th would work for launching too, but their default Blade with launch has some lengthy art animations that make them unreliable.

Also making sure to have treasure sensor on someone.

Just used 50 cylinders and got 39 rare cores. I equipped accessories to extend break and topple too, since every now and then 4 takes their time with topple, and Nia's launch art animation took a little too long once.

5th's launch is slow, but his blade gets the ability to speed it up pretty darn fast

if you follow my guide you'll get a guaranteed break-smash combo every time without having to worry about that :P

I really honestly don't mind the core system in this game, I've gotten all my rare blades in the process of looking for commons (for things like dark mastery)

but I honestly can't stand why they constantly show the silhouettes for rare blades before the common third blade. It doesn't seem to have any point other than to piss off the player, since you can already see all the silhouettes of all the blades in the guide.

Especially when you only have one of each element left and you use the proper booster and then oops the silhouette you need shows up first. Like welp can I just cancel this already...

At level 2 I was like oh doing these 10 minute missions isn't so bad. Then I did them again and was still level 2 and was like oh maybe this won't be so good but still not the worst thing ever. And then after level 4 I did them again and checked how much my fan club went up and what the fuck monolith why would you do this.

Tempted to wait and see if the requirements get changed with the upcoming patch...

It's not all bad though. Good way to max out common affinity charts at least.

The worst thing about it is the rare/uncommon field abilities. I desperately need another Nopon Wisdom source and it took me forever to get Fortitude/Keen Eye.

It's the way to level up your common blades for field skills (which you'll need) and idea points (which you'll need if you want to pull rare blades with any kind of consistency)

also a handful of rare blades have merc missions exclusive to them that you'll need to do to unlock parts of their affinity chart

oh that's cool I didn't realize WP skills were based on the weapon type and not the blade itself

got Adenine as my 2nd rare blade so I used her to replace the knuckle claws wind element blade that you get on rex by default and all her weapon skills were level 2 already

The most important aspect of raising your common Blades is that completing their charts is basically the only way to level up your arts past level 2 in anything resembling a timely fashion.

More party member spoilers here.

He's made out to be a damage dealer, but Rex already fills that role well. It seems like you really do just want one character for each role in your party, and I can't see him being better than Nia for healing or Tora/Morag for tanking.

I don't have him yet but I think some people like having 2 attackers, with Rex as a secondary healer.

Personal preference. Just like there was no real reason to use Riki or Melia or Dunban. You either want to or you don't. Depending on your weapon setup, --Zeke-- might be better suited to continue driver combos or something, but otherwise eh.

I've been discovering I don't actually need a tank, though. I've been able to take out unique monsters slightly above my level with a party of Rex/Nia/5th, without any of them having a tank Blade equipped. Maybe Nia's healing has just gotten that good for me, or it's that I have a knuckle Blade on 5th so there's HP potions coming from everyone when needed.

Yeah but I mean you can still get through the game just fine by never deviating from Shulk/Reyn/Sharla (which I know wasn't that uncommon).

Just picked up Zenobia, now I'm down to three Rare Blades left, one of whom is KOS-MOS.

I've heard that releasing a bunch will increase my odds to pull one, but would it reduce my odds to pull KOS-MOS specifically, since I might get a Blade I've already pulled?

Ugh, I'd rather just buy KOS-MOS as DLC.

For the top 4 or 5 UM's I used Shulk/Dunban/Seven. For enemies with levels in the 90s where I just needed to survive I'd use Melia/Riki/Sharla.

Tilly bakery - Torigoth (might require Kasandra's side quest, but I dunno if the dawn bread was available beforehand)
Coral Leaf - don't remember where
Soniarus - beats me
Knick-Knacks - I got this early so probably Argentum or Torigoth
