Did Littlefinger surpass Stannis as most disappointing character in the show?

Littlefinger was a dishorable scumbag who got what he deserved. He thought he was clever, but it all finally caught up to him.

But he wasn't defeated by any kind of cunning or wit. He was foiled because there is a literal omniscient god character who can rat him out. That was wholly unsatisfying, probably even more so if you hate him.

He knew about Bran's powers well in advance. His weakness was sticking around for Sansa and the hope of outsmarting everyone.

I'm disappointed because he was so much more clever in the books. There was that scene in AFfC where the lords of the Vale came to arrest him and he turned them all away, that was amazing and I was hoping he'd show some of that craftiness in the show, but instead he just bumbled around with a smirk on his face.

Littlefinger has absolutely not beaten Stannis for most jobbed character in the show. I'll put him down for #2 right now but don't hold me to that, I'd have to think on it to be sure.

But his narrative arc always ended with Sansa having him killed. The Winterfell plot was still dumb, but Sansa having Littlefinger killed for his **** was not. That's where those two characters were gonig for a long, long time now.

And while Bran slammed the door on him, you guys are acting like he'd have gotten away with it otherwise? lol

Littlefinger had no allies. Sansa could have ordered the execution without Bran and met no opposition. Did you forget we're in Westeros? He's not getting a jury of his peers and presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Sansa acts like she's calling Arya in to be charged and executed for murder and treason then reveals she's actually accusing Littlefinger. She throws Lysa's murder, Jon Arryn's murder, and Ned's betrayal at him asking if he denies them. Littlefinger tries to make excuses and eventually does deny it claiming no one was there to witness it, prompting Bran to throw his, "I did tell you not to trust me" quote at him. Littlefinger begs for mercy and Arya walks up and cuts his throat mid beg.

It has been complete piss for 3 seasons save some sporadically great scenes and episodes, which we're usually rendered meaningless after (see: spoils of war)

Yeah, I can't quite tell if Sansa and Arya planned this out or not. I'm leaning no. I don't think they coordinated until this episode, it just doesn't make sense to me for them to have acted the way they did previously if they were working together. The earliest I can see them teaming up is some time after Sansa found the bag of faces. The most straight-forward reading (which with the show is usually a safe bet) is that it didn't come together until Littlefinger's "I play a game" scene this episode.

I do think it wasn't until this episode because that whole "I play a game" scene was the MOST cocky and braggadocious Littlefinger has ever been to the point where it would have been insane if Sansa didn't see through it.

hard to deny, but i am mainly watching for the spectacle at this point, and any smart moments i take as a bonus at this point

i loved sansa and arya this season btw. the fakeout on LF was lame af, but i enjoyed their conflict a lot, and i loved their scene after, too. sansa and arya quoting their father to each other is hnnnnnng

also, i did feel tense during the scene where it's just cersei, jaime, and the mountain - i felt that jaime really could die there. he finally turned on cersei

and omg snow on king's landing so beautiful

Absolutely this. I wanted him to have a "Right, yeh've proven yeh got balls after all. We'll follow ye" moment.

Theon isn't a winner. He never has been. What he does have is finally resolving his internal conflict after 70 episodes, and nope gotta beat up some guy to seal the deal.


Littlefinger's death was dumb, not so much that it happened or how, but in that his character was sort of... wasted for the past three seasons. In retrospect, all of Winterfell this season has been about bringing the Starks back together, eliminating any possible conflict between them, and tying up a loose end (Littlefinger). But that's all he became... a loose end. Reduced to being a pretty single-layered character.

Those are my major gripes with the episode. Everything else was alright. But then again, nothing really happened that wasn't predictable.

Granted, I thought the best chance for Theon redemption was for him to try and save Yara on the boat and end up getting killed for it, so I had no clue what they were doing with him at this point soooo =/

the show is about glorifying violence, unfortunately. it would have been better without his having to use his fists, but i still liked the scene a lot.
