Maybe I'm just a cynical lonely dude but birth is nothing special and actually quite icky-looking. I've seen footage of fathers passing out when their wife is giving birth because of the stress of the moment.

I'd gladly take a huge wad of cash than put up with that. I know I could make my kid's life better than sharing the fleeting moment of them being born with a million dollars.

It makes minus 100% sense to not choose the money. What's more important to a person, having his/her dad see your birth, or having enough money to buy the baby anything it needs? You'd have to be an idiot if you chose not to have the money.

In that case, the money. I'd like to be there, but that kind of money would do a whole lot more for raising the kid than being there for the birth would, and I think everyone will understand that. If I couldn't tell anyone, though, that would not only put indirect limitations on my ability to spend the money, but it'd create a lot of strain over my apparent flippancy.

Considering that I actually did miss the birth of my son...

I think this situation implies you're already having a child, so the people who are like "I don't want kids anyways" don't really apply.
