Stannis (and Jon Arryn) basically already ran the day-to-day administration in Westeros during Robert's reign. The great houses would hate it because he wouldn't put up with their BS, but his reign would likely be stable IMO.

Jon finds out Arya and Bran are both alive and also the Night King is almost here, all in one beat. Zoom zoom zoom. This plot to pilfer a wight is so hilarious. Davos wants to smuggle Jon in, which means I'm about to see MAH BOI GENDRY. I love how this team comes together though. It's very Western. Kit's "trust in a stranger" speech is well-delivered; good acting here.

These squabbling families up in Winterfell over Jon's absence can be cut some slack since it's probably been several months since he left lol

I see people dissing the dialogue in this Arya/Sansa scene. Maybe it's not the snappiest, but it's totally fine. It's better than their reunion stuff last week, at least, which was somewhat middling. Arya's a little creeper with some of her delivery, which suits her nicely

The lack of Tyrion/Bronn interaction here is sad. If they never interact again, it's tragic. Tyrion/Jaime is so good here though. Great delivery on the promise of more to come. I also love that Cersei secretly knew about this. Nikolaj is knocking it outta the park this ep. Dinklage's stuttering is so unusual to the character that it's fiercely memorable too. He's obviously shattered standing here knowing his brother largely despises him. He wouldn't have cared before, but his journey toward a renewed sense of purpose has brought this matter back into his brain

aaaand here's Gendry. This scene's great. Gendry's gung ho "let's go" attitude, Davos making a big meta fandom joke, it's pitch-perfect. The follow-up with the two Lannister guards is a mixed bag. It ends well, obviously, but it overstays its welcome. It kinda tries to be Tarantino but doesn't have the energy for it

This is another good Cersei/Jaime scene. Both actors always bring fire, but if the writing can't match it, it falls flat. Well, again, I'm not so keen on the "there's a baby again" twist but we'll see what happens I guess, both these characters' long-term livelihood is so unlikely, anyway

I really thought if Gendry ever came back he'd smith dragonglass. Maybe he still will, if he survives this ordeal, but yeah, still

Tyrion giving Jorah the coin is good. Meawhile, Jon misunderstanding Jorah's and Daenerys' body language is the only thing about their interactions together I've actively disliked. The rest I love. Mmmm, especially their theme music

You know it's a darn good thing Daario got left behind. This Jon/Daenerys/Jorah starefest would be uncontrollably dire

So with Sam ditching out on Oldtown as I'd figured he would, and with the maesters not likely to chase after him considering the show never bothered having even Randyll Tarly chase after him, I reckon one of two things happens with Sam: the maester dream is never again moved along, or he survives the series, returns, and it's all Broadbent can do to shrug and give him a "saved-the-world" chain

I seriously thought Arya was spying on Littlefinger macking on some redheaded chick at first and was like"this is where we're taking this?" thank goodness I was mistaken, his singular devotion to Tully lineage is one of his defining creeptastic qualities

Littlefinger's possible plan -- to frame Sansa for Arya so the sisters feud and Arya can be eliminated, I suppose? -- is the first real thing he's done all season, and I'm glad he's doing something. Curious to see where this goes. They knew we'd pause on the letter Arya finds, and I was surprised when I discovered it was the letter Cersei forced Sansa to pen years ago. Really not what I was expecting

So this Jon/Davos/Jorah/Tormund/Gendry scene is short but sweet. Not a wasted line, several funny ones. The follow-up with Sandor and Beric and Thoros hopping in is also good of course.

The whole "teleporting" thing has been happening since the first season, I guess people are just noticing it more now. I'm fine with it, no need to show people walking around for weeks and if anything the teleporting is dumb in a funny way to joke around about and not something to get upset about (not saying anyone here IS upset about it).

The first half of the episode was solid but the second half was really dumb.

From only one wight not dying to Benjen getting off the horse to say there's no time to get on the horse.

And Arya being so stupid
