Nick, your story about terribly Indy wrestling was great. I mentioned a few of those things to my wrestler buddy and we got a kick out of it.

Indy wrestling promotors are awful. That is the end all be all of it. They are terrible. I have a ton of stories from the Pittsburgh/Wheeling area independent shows I've been to and insider information on the ideas and thought that goes into it. If anyone is interested, I could probably share some.

I'm not alone though. Some guy on PWB had a topic asking if it was weird he doesn't watch NJPW. Phrased it totally different than I did of course.

As I said before, too much hype for something is just irritating to me. It's the opposite of the "Greatest product nobody watches" sort of thing. I don't want to hear about the same fucking thing every fucking day, even if it's awesome. Makes it sound like a goddamn fad, instead of the great game changing promotion it is supposed to be.

"BEST YEAR EVER" and "OKADA's run is better than Flair and Bret (a thumbnail I saw last week)" and "SIX STARS EVERYWHERE!" Good for them. Still strikes me as hyperbole up the ass.

I'm simply suggesting that I am more inclined to turn the channel and be turned off the product by all this gushing, rather than be sucked in.

I've seen the argument on various reddit threads that Dave is just biased towards njpw and WWE "deserves" just as many 5 star matches.

Biased towards them? Yeah no shit.

But does WWE deserve the same number of 5 and 6 star matches njpw has received this year?

Not so sure on that point.

Well G1 is over now and there's only one huge show the rest of the year plus a few monthly minor PPVs

I don't want to watch something, and I'm saying I skip over news dedicated to said topic. I like to distance myself from hyperbole and opinions, preferring to wait things out and discover them when I want to, whether it's a few months or a year later: a decision I made rather than being hyped into it by forum posts or podcasts. If I'm not interested, I'm not interested. It's like getting shocked expressions if you tell someone you've never seen a great movie or something.

But it was taken as "Dave's a NJPW loving weeb: WWE and LU forever!" Like Tom said, it's not anything WOL can do on their end if that's their opinion or their job. They are analyzing it. I'm just saying that trying to quantify their opinion as fact is just as dumb as saying a "favorite" thing equates to a "best" thing. There is no best anything.

I will say that as good as Okada is, Dave is pretty far up his ass. He has like twice as many 5 star matches this year alone as WWE has in it's entire history, which is a bit ridiculous. He's not the first guy Dave has done this with, but coming out with 6 star ratings for a match that was excellent but did nothing at all to distance itself from other legendary matches, and then saying the next two matches were even better, is a little obnoxious.

It's like people don't get what Dave has always said about his ratings. They Re o my reflective of his opinions. I enjoy listening to his opinions because I believe he is an expert in this field of critique. If he enjoys it, I like to hear him talk about it. I feel like he gives NJPW a fair amount of time compared to WWE.

now gravity falls, I'm 7 episodes in and I'm loving it. not sure what the hype levels are but it was less than those 2 but I definitely like it better

It could be worse. I was expecting worse from the original posts-- the TMZ article doesn't sound quite as bad. I mean yeah needing heart surgery is awful but at least he didn't arrive at the hospital dying or something, as he's been there since Saturday, and the coma is medically induced not him slipping into one because he's so screwed up.

Just gotta hope for the best in whatever surgery he needs going well I guess.
