His case is more nebulous than Dangerous Ariana's since he's literally called the Square-Enix CEO in the DLC so you can't even make the argument that it's merely a character based on or inspired by a real person (and no, Lopen's whole "he can't do all that stuff in real life so you can't say that's him" argument doesn't hold much water for me in this case because they changed nothing about his appearance and didn't give him a token background story or anything). It's a self-insertion akin to what bad fanfiction writers do.

I'd lean toward not allowing him because I don't consider the argument for inclusion to be the same as Dangerous Ariana's.

Ariana's backstory in FFBE is literally her life synopsis. Lopen's whole "black mage but not in real life" thing is the ONLY thing that even holds water.

Again, let her in if you want. But disallowing Matsuda is very foul. Neither have any real character or storyline to speak of, they are representations of themselves in game, but have in-universe powers and abilities.

I'm not a fan of either being in, but it does seem silly to include Ariana but deny Matsuda.

Dangerous Ariana at least has little more going for her, not only that synopsis but also the short descriptions of her items, as well as a multi-level event and she is in a game where characters from other worlds coming in is the norm. Matsuda just seems like a silly joke. But I mean, if characters from 100% Not A Final Fantasy Game Bravely Default can get in, who cares really

I don't think most of Ariana's supporter core is treating her as a joke. Definitely a few but from anyone who plays Brave Exvius she's a perfectly legitimate nomination-- she had some of the more memorable content from that game as brief as it was.

my perception of events is something like this

1 dangerous ariana is nominated not as a joke
2 people assume dangerous ariana can only be nominated as a joke
3 people complain about the inclusion of dangerous ariana
4 people defend the inclusion of dangerous ariana
5 people insist that others could ONLY defend the inclusion of dangerous ariana as a joke
6 at this point it starts to become hilarious how opposed some people are to the inclusion of dangerous ariana
7 therefore, the inclusion of dangerous ariana has become funny
8 therefore, the people who originally perceived dangerous ariana as an unfunny joke have in fact made it into a joke with themselves as the punchline

I personally don't care if Dangerous Ariana wins the whole thing. I've learned to detach myself from the results whenever I host things. I don't view SMFFFC as my contest, especially since I didn't start it and am a relative newcomer. I just run it, and I just want it to be fun for the people who participate in it. Maybe I'm wrong about how seriously most of her supporters are taking her, but it doesn't matter much to me whether it's serious or a joke.
