In terms of romantic relationships, which of these two options do you prefer?

I'm leaning heavily toward option one.

Flings aren't really honestly even that fun. I mean, they're more fun than a impulse buy video game or a trip to the beach, but they're so boring compared to having an eternal partner who knows all your flaws by heart, gets all your jokes and interests, has experienced first hand a lot of the trauma you've gone through since knowing them, has unconditional love for you, and gives you an excuse to make crepes every sunday morning.

Long term for sure. Flings are like 8/10 video games, something fun to hold me over until a 10/10 comes along but not something I'd but in my favorite games list. Of course, some people like to play a lot of good games and some people like replaying their favorites. Just a matter of preference!

What's the point of the first one? Do you live for temporary pleasures, or to grow as a person? Marriage to a girl you see eye-to-eye with is fundamental for personal growth.

Also, for life, my ass. Unless you are really rich.

the first sounds incredibly boring (also lol thinking everyone voting option 1 is gonna pull beautiful women their entire life) and lonely. I can understand flings for a bit if you just came out of a rough relationship, but forever? yikes.

second is great as long as you find someone you are truly compatible with.

Honestly surprised people are so deep into option 2. Is it because they are married and like it, or because they hope they will find happiness in marriage?

I like option 1. It's wayyyy more honest and casual to me. When you're with a "life partner", how often do you have to fake things just so you can maintain this relationship that you desperately don't want to lose? Pretty much constantly. With a casual relationship, you can be totally true and independent and the other person can choose to come or go as they please. It just makes sense.

That being said, it's not a choice between option 1 and 2 for me right now. It's option 1 or nothing. And nothing is pretty tempting tbh.

I'm sure it's that and because having and raising children seems much more doable with option 2, and I think most Board 8ers have indicated that they would like children at least one day.

I basically hate casual dating. it feels designed to be as inconvenient as possible. maybe I'm just super ugly or weird but there are all these hoops you need to jump through just to get someone to agree to do one thing with you even if you both know that you want to do it.

the best thing about having a long term committed partner is that you always have a person you can invite to stuff whenever you want to go and do something. it's sort of like having a best friend who actually wants to hang out with you all the time. those were my favorite kind of relationships that I've been in. it's possible that this kind of feeling wears off over time and the long term commitment thing would become a pain but I never reached that point in any of my relationships. although I really don't like the idea of marriage either so I just didn't vote.

@LusterSoldier

That one urbanized dictionary site has a pretty good definition:

deliberately short-term sexual relationship between two people. Longer than a one-night stand, not as serious-sounding as "affair", more frankly physical than the discreet or twee "dalliance", the word has the associations of a much-needed sexual relief from stress, worry or hangups. No deep personal involvement required, just the sex and a bit of attention.
