I wasn't sure if that other one was going to be used to keep discussing the game so I decided might as well make a somewhat official one. I think even with spoilers in the title we should still try to spoil tag some details just in case, as we're treading very thin ice with this game and spoilers.



Got my Take Your Heart edition, got Morgana theme and avatar set up, and started the game. Stylish as fuck.

thanks for making the topic. there were a million other ones and it's good to keep things centralized.

I really like the opening hours. it has a framing device of in medias res interrogation that I think works very well for long-form serialized drama, and in the specific case of Persona integrates itself well into the traditional day-in-the-life structure. it's perfect for plot revelations. the cast comes together in a believable way; they're linked together by personalities and a strong sense of fighting injustice. the opening case is grounded in reality, playing off a real-world scenario with an understanding of the power dynamics at play. the brief time I've spent in the Velvet Room has alluded to the metaphysical nature in a way that makes it seem like there are real consequences for the main character.

it seems like the Velvet Room is a much bigger deal in P5 than it was in past games. Igor explicitly says it's a manifestation of Joker's psyche. it's part confessional, part prison. but how far does this projection extend? in the first Palace we see elaborate and believable extensions of Kamoshida's personality. I feel like they're setting up a twist here.

...which may get tricky with this game depending on what exactly this game does as it progresses, but based on everything I've seen thus far it should work?

The game is fantastic though. Liking this even better than P3/4 so far, though I am admittedly still in the opening stages. What I really like is that (general spoilers? no specific date but I'm only like 2 hours in) it looks like we actually have a flawed protagonist this time around as opposed to a basically jesus, though I guess there's still loads of time for that to change.

Only problems I've had so far are the way the dub (which has otherwise been stellar) pronounces "Sakamoto", and that something about the walking/running controls in the game feels off to me.

Also if you're talking about a Confidant plot, mark the level you're up to and what arcana it is

Yeah this is what I gathered as well. And he doesn't seem to have an issue with what he did so much as causing any commotion at all. He seems like a pretty cynical guy that just wants to stay out of everyones way and just wants everyone else to do the same to him.

After P4 was basically the same general gist of P3, I wasn't expecting anything different, in school fighting evil. Etc

So I do think the game is taking a bit long to open up and let you do stuff like go out, but at the same time I'm really enjoying it.


Also maybe it's just because it's been awhile since I've played other Personas, but this one feels like it starts right off being super dark and more depressing than the others.

Basically if you at all like JRPGs you will most likely love this game IMO.

Start feels kind of really slow but it finally picks up on...4/11 or 4/12 -- about 1.5 hours in. I'm really liking it so far, I enjoy that MC (not really spoilers) actually talks, barely in cutscenes and stuff too.

Cleared the first dungeon

Very nice how they added different elements to the boss fights besides a simple beatdown.

Loving the ambush mechanic so far. Figure I'll spend the next part of the game doing S Link stuff.

I got it and am only a few hours in. Thank you all for spoiler tags. Please keep it that way. I have a couple weeks of REAL school to get through before I can use my break time on this game.

Anyway, the voice acting is pretty good. Igor's new voice actor takes some getting used to, but at least it isn't Vic McNogna anymore (from P4A I think). He definitely wasn't right for the role. I'm also hearing some familiar standbys (Jamieson Price, Michelle Ruff, DC Douglas, Kirk Thornton, Richard Epcar, CAM FUCKING CLARKE! YEAH!). Good vibes all around.

I know the game is presenting me as a big ass troublemaker, but I wonder if I really could play it completely straight (outside of missions). I want to see how far actually being a nice guy gets me, because being labeled a prick from the word go is kinda weird.

Also, I can also confirm Morgana is awesome.

I'm pretty sure this is normal, but just wanted to make sure. I'm at 4/15 and have not initiated any confidants outside of party members and Igor. This is the same for everyone else, right?

I do feel like it's to go with his new Japanese voice. Since his previous Japanese VA passed away, when they finally gave him a new voice, they went with a really deep sounding voice.

So I guess they wanted to match that with the English voicing.

3 hours in and loving it. Pretty sure you hadn't even entered a dungeon by this point in P4.

The pronunciations of certain names are what's really killing me. It's like they're saying them wrong on purpose. Icon says pronunciations were decreed by Atlas Japan....so I guess this is another case where japanese direction in English voice acting caused issues? House of the Dead'd.

My copy came super late, but I'm glad it at least showed up! Only got to play a couple hours but the style is sooooooo good so far.

What voices are people playing with? I've heard the dub is pretty darn decent but I just can't say no to the absolutely star-studded cast the Japanese track has. I'd normally play a game like this in English but the star factor plus how insanely Japanese this game is (down to the freaking subways) makes it seem really appropriate.
