I know the sample size is very small, but I feel like this is the 3rd biggest "Champion of one company shows up on another show without permission" ever, after Madusa and Mike Awesome.
Still ahead of Haku!
uhhh...Ric Flair?
Or did he have permission to steal the NWA Title <_<?

He wasn't actually the recognized NWA Champ when he showed up, was he?
I thought he was officially no longer champ due to his contract expiring, he was just unbeaten and still in possession of the physical title.

I feel like a douche for complaining when TNA is doing so well, but there are a lot better workers out there than some of the guys they got. Props for Kenny King, Jigsaw and some others but boo to Johnny Yuma, Kid Kash, Dakota Darsow etc.
If Aries really had some pull in picking guys, where are the DGUSA? Akira Tozawa, Ricochet, Masato Yoshino, Naruki Doi, PAC, Jack Evans, AR Fox, Chuck Taylor, Johnny Gargano, Low Ki, YAMATO, Hallowicked, Frightmare, Ophidian etc.
Low Ki don't wanna be there, at least not full-time. He took those two bookings last year but only because those were his only obligations and included a PPV payday.
I'm not saying Aries has pull with TNA. I'm saying Aries has pull with Kenny King.
TNA says "Hey Kenny King we hear you're a free agent, wanna come work with us?" Kenny: "Sure, but I have a verbal agreement with ROH to work through first." TNA: "Oh well that's a shame, we REALLY need a new X-Division Champion, WINK WINK." Aries: "Hey Kenny that handshake with ROH wasn't worth the paper it was printed on, get your ass in here." Kenny: "You're right! Bye ROH!" *Cornette Face*

If they grabbed all the bigger names/more popular guys, each would be less important as a result. If you grab only a select few (and then have guys like Darsow as tryout job guys), it makes getting Kenny King and Jigsaw huge news.
Edit: Not factoring in guys who wouldn't want to be full-time TNA guys.

I wonder if any eagle eyed casual viewers noticed that Rashad Cameron showed up on Smackdown a week earlier with a different name and got squashed by Ryback.

I did not, in fact notice that.

And yeah, it's like War said -- doing it this way makes Kenny King look like a star because he dominates the discussion.
Really we only mark for Rubix because we're CHIKARA marks. TNA is intending for this tournament to be all about Kenny King and Rashad Cameron.
Itd be pretty funny if after all of this Williams or Ion walks out of Destination X as champion.
It really is kind of strange that they've spent ZERO time even establishing the 3 guys already on the roster who got automatic spots in the tournament as threats.

Well one of them, maybe Ion to go along with his "guy who injures people" gimmick, is going to MURDER that guy whos name i cant remember that beat Darsow, which should do the trick.
King/Cameron/TNA Guy/ ????
I dont know about who the 4th guy in the match will be. It'd need to be a face though. .... maybe it IS Rubix!

Flip Cassanova. A battle to see who legitimately cripples the other guy first!
Doug Williams would be the best worker to put in as the fourth guy, but "best worker" isn't necessarily what you're looking for in an Ultimate X match.
EDIT: I'm gonna guess Sonjay is the fourth guy.

Thatd be a pretty insane match. The reason I was thinking Rubix was because if someone wins that opener and then wins the other qualifier thats a pretty substantial underdog push for the Ultimate X match.
But the smart money is your way.

It'll be a good PPV I'm sure, but I can't see Aries winning the title right now so that's killing it for me. It really feels like they're building up the BFG series as the way that Roode's dominance will (or at least CAN) end, so title matches before that kinda feel like, well of course he won't lose the title. Aries will make a good show of it but it's most likely just a way to cement Roode's run even further so it's that much more epic when the BFG series winner finally takes him down.
Maybe I'm wrong but that's how I feel.

That's basically how I feel about it. I just hope Aries is booked to look great in defeat, I suppose.
The match itself should be great though.

What's important is that they're making this MATCH important. Even if (when) Roode retains, it'll feel like he really accomplished something awesome. And Aries will no doubt look great in defeat.
It's not just a reign-buffer like that mini-feud with RVD

This is the really important part. In this era of one month feuds, Roode/Aries is actually making it work and feel huge.

Destination X provides a real final exam for card placement.
The last chance four-way HAS to be the opener.
Roode vs. Aries HAS to be the main event.
Ultimate X HAS to be the second-to-last match
How do you most effectively place the other 6 matches in between?
Gut instinct says that in the interest of fairness the four Ultimate X qualifiers should be matches 2-5, but then you just ran 5 X-Division matches in a row.
And then what comes before Ultimate X? Again, gut instinct says Daniels vs. Styles since that's a "bigger" match than Joe vs. Angle, but it'll be a very emotional match. You don't want to drain the crowd right before making a new star.
It's a tough task to maximize the crowd response on this one!

Last Chance 4-way Angle/Joe X-Division Qualifiers Daniels/Styles Ultimate X Aries/Roode
Is the most logical, but
Last Chance 4-way Angle/Joe 3 X-Division Qualifiers Daniels/Styles X-Division Championship Winner Qualifier Ultimate X Aries/Roode
does the best job of putting over the Ultimate X winner huge while giving a slight rest between Daniels/Styles and the X-Division Title match.
Last Chance 4-way Angle/Joe 2 X-Division Qualifiers Daniels/Styles 2 X-Division Qualifiers Ultimate X Aries/Roode
The downside is it doesnt feel "fair" to have the guy who wins the final qualifier immediately fight again. But if you make it a likable face, like I guess Kenny King or the winner of the Last Chance 4way it can work.

It's a tough card because the only "break" matches are the X-Division Qualifiers, but since they're qualifying for a match later in the card you can't just toss them in like normal break matches.
It also seems kind of challenging to book the winner of the Last Chance 4-way into the Ultimate X itself, because that would put him in THREE matches in one night. It will depend what the 4-way and the winner's qualifier are like, they could be quick and not at all demanding. But I would not normally want to see someone who had already wrestled TWICE that night get put into a match as potentially dangerous as an Ultimate X, especially considering everyone else in it has already wrestled once themselves.

I hadnt considered that. Maybe they SHOULDNT put Zema Ion in this match...
