So I've been out of the loop entirely for the past week or two or three, what exciting stuff has happened in the WWE? Has whatever big anniversary or milestone they were hyping up happened (shows much attention I was paying even when I was still following it, huh)? Has the Punk/Bryan/Kane/AJ thing changed or progressed or anything?

Not yet.
Has the Punk/Bryan/Kane/AJ thing changed or progressed or anything?
Kane is out of it.

- As noted before, Bray Wyatt (Husky Harris) confirmed on Twitter that he recently suffered a torn pec. F4Wonline.com reports that he will be undergoing surgery soon and should be out of action for about six months. He may also have some shoulder problems taken care of. Wyatt indicated on Twitter that he won't be missing any NXT episodes.
But why do I get the feeling that Kane could win MitB and cash it in on the winner of Punk/Bryan and celebrate afterwards with AJ? I mean, I doubt Cena doesn't main event but it'd be a pretty awesome twist, wouldn't it?

hype vid's pretty good. nowhere on the level of WWE though, they really need to figure out who the hell wwe has for production and get someone with those talents because it's not even in the same league.
but i like good background music.

"When people ask why certain wrestlers aren't getting what some fans feel that the said wrestlers deserve, I ask what have those wrestlers done lately to make themselves better? If one thinks that only appearing on TV and live events plus working out and tanning is all the investment a talent needs to make to become viable then think again. I've encouraged countless talents to watch DVD's to study the greats of the business and to pick up on the small things that can still be utilized today. Some nod yes and never follow through."

-Fan Page List has ranked AJ Lee as the most influential female athlete on Twitter, based on her Twitter followers, Facebook fans and Klout score.
WWE bragged about the announcement and wrote on their own Twitter account: "DID YOU KNOW?: @WWEAJLee is ranked #1 among Female Athletes ranked by influence (@klout) http://wwe.me/c48IS via @FanPageList #AJLikesMeToo."
I read this not long after seeing the headline of an article discussing whether WWE's AJ is now more popular than TNA's AJ.

-It was reported yesterday that Johnny Gargano may be leaving Dragon Gate USA.
It now appears that he may be leaving DGUSA to join the WWE. Gargano wrestled a tryout match for the company earlier this year and WWE wants to sign him to a developmental deal.
He is the reigning Freedom Gate champion and will defend the title against Akira Tozawa at the DGUSA show in Michigan on July 27. He is expected to be gone from the promotion at the end of the month so it is likely that he will drop the belt to Tozawa.
WWE is trying to sign several wrestlers from the promotion, including Gargano, Sami Callihan and Brodie Lee, who is already signed and in FCW as Luke Harper.

Cool, I might luck into seeing a title change.

oh man, Tozawa with the belt would be awesome. and good luck to Gargano. he's been plagued with injuries so i don't blame him for wanting to go with WWE. i find it hilarious though that they take the younger, not as good Aries/Shelley clone though. he really is a lot like Aries, style-wise.
Sami would absolutely be hilarious to see in WWE. frankly uh, those 3 names there are all guys that... are among the best in the indies. if WWE picks them up, good for them.
Swann's issue is gonna be height. dude is really, really short. dude can fly, but is short.

I remember when Gargano had that Superstars match last year getting squashed by Brodus (pre-Funk-era), reports came out that Cena really liked him and was gonna put some good words in for him.
That can't hurt!
EDIT: Cena is a huge Matt Classic mark so he's probably seen Gargano on CHIKARA at least too.

that'd be nice of cena to do! Gargano would be interesting to see picked up because he's not an ROH guy, never was. he's a Chikara/DGUSA guy.
that, by the way, is more bad news for ROH. their guys are being on the same footing as those two promotions. which, while true and FAIR (thanks Aries and Moxley!), says that they're getting more attention to the E. Chikara's got some guys that'd make a cruiserweight division worth it, Dragon Gate has... well, everything. if nothing else, Gabe knows how to grow and keep a promotion alive.

Gabe also knows his role. He never comes out and says these exact words, but he understands that DGUSA and EVOLVE are essentially showcase feeder feds for TNA and WWE. He wants his feds to be THE place to go for indie talent to get noticed and signed.
Compare that to ROH who wants to BE TNA and WWE and lock people down for less money. It don't work that way Cornette.

Beyond that, I would say this entire GM run has been handled really really well.
He's not obtrusive, he's clear and consistent in his ideals and motivations, and he lets the wrestlers have the spotlight. He's there to grab casual attention and then divert it to the stars of the present and future. Bingo.
You just have to pretend that heel run never existed. <_<

On the surface, "Losing top singles Champion" would seem to be a bigger blow than "Losing 1/3 of prominent stable."
He's their top singles champion, but he's not their top guy. It's not like they're losing their John Cena or Randy Orton (or I guess CM Punk is more appropriate).
In CHIKARA, Gargano is a top competitor to all three belts and a member of one of the top 2 trios, as well as the top tag team in the company. F.I.S.T. being broken up right before King of Trios would be almost catastrophic. You can't have KoT without FIST and The Colony.
And trios and stables as a whole mean a lot more than singles competitors in CHIKARA (although that's changing a little with the creation of the Grand Championship). In DGUSA, Gargano leaves and you can just elevate another guy or crown a new champion. In CHIKARA, Gargano leaves and you suddenly have a gaping hole in FIST that you can't fill with just anybody.

I just have to say, this is the first time in a LONG time that both companies have built their PPVs well enough that I'm seriously considering buying them. Ultimately I will probably decide on just one, and I'm still mulling it over in my head...

If I was confronted with some sort of demonic figure who decided to torture me by making me choose only one of the two PPVs I would totally go with Destination X.
The only reason in MitB's favor would be my streak of ordering every WWE PPV since WM XII

I'm generally less interested in the actual wrestling part of pro wrestling, but looking at a card with Roode/Aries, Angle/Joe, and AJ/Daniels. Like, any one of those could easily end up being MOTY.

Aries/Roode is the one i'd be most hopeful on, if they give it time. thatcan easily be TNA's MOTY and possibly WWE's too. right now i think the best between those two companies is still dragon/punk from i think it was OTL (for TNA, Aries/Shelley or Aries/Joe), and that one's worse than Davey/Elgin. not by much though. doubt this one will be better but we'll see.

I got so desperate to talk wrestling that I went to PWB. Big mistake.
Topic: "Unify the titles because the brand split is dead!"
Me: "Sure, that's a good idea down the road, but not right now because you don't want to sacrifice either Punk's or Sheamus's push just to unify titles. Wait until a heel who's already been Champ or someone like Cena or Orton has one of the titles, then you can unify them because now you have someone who can eat the loss."
Posters: "SHEAMUS SUCKS AND IS FAILING UNIFY THE TITLES"
Me: *facepalm*
