I jumped the gun with my 400 MINIMUM comment earlier, but I think $500 (for the premium SKU if multiple are offered) is more likely than $300. I'm looking at how much more expensive this generation of machines has been and betting that the tide won't really be reversed next gen. The PS2 and Xbox both dropped to $150 a couple years after launch. The GameCube dropped to like $90 near the end of its life. We're simply not seeing such prices this time: the cheapest console is $150; the more premium ones go for $250 and still have big Move/Kinect bundles for like $400. I'm sure each manufacturer is still worried after the PS3 struggled at $600, but I also wonder how much wiggle room they really have in the price department. The machines are going to be stronger, and each one will probably be packing an experimental gimmick. I think repairing their reputation with us geeks can certainly be done and done quickly (most longtime gamers reaaaaaally love Nintendo), but it rests on two key factors: 1. Solid online right out the gate. Anything resembling a "friend code" means they **ed this up. We'll need accounts that can be logged into anywhere; tethering gamers to one machine is unacceptable. An easily accessible chat/messaging system will be expected. I'm hoping for an accomplishment system like Achievements/Trophies - that would be amazing, but I'm not getting my hopes up (too much). 2. REAL third party support right out the gate. This means more than a couple Ubi-Soft games and Arkham City a year late. The big stuff that hits PS3/360 has to hit WiiU.
