I finally beat this godforsaken game last night. 84 or so hours, level 72 or 73. the last boss fight was intense.

Xenoblade 2's alright - I think it drops the ball in a lot of places, but it has enough good to see it through.

I think that's a little revisionist - DL-6 is solvable by modern standards but still seems kinda crazy by the time we get to 1-4. bullet left in the shoulder, throwing the gun to hit someone outside of the elevator, etc.

I kinda feel like he deserves it again because they're clearly the best team in the league

but like, you can say the Rockets deserve it for getting Paul - or maybe not because they gave up a legit allstar in Williams and a defensive stopper in Beverley who could have paid off when someone like Russ abuses them in the first or second round. you can say the Cavs guy deserves it for doing an unbelievable job reshaping the roster but they also were in a horrible spot because of their front office. I dunno. it's weird. the Kings are super dysfunctional in the front office but also had some of the best first and second year players last night including the MVP.

the awards this year feel really clear. Harden's got MVP unless something drastic happens. Oladipo has most improved. Lou Will has sixth man.

ROY is between Mitchell and Simmons but I think Mitchell will edge him because he's a lot more highlight-y. coach feels like an awkward one because it's suuuuper subjective and based entirely on your opinion of where that team should have fallen with an average coach. I'd go Casey. executive, how do you even measure that?

the two mechanics that seem dark souls-y are the pieces of obtuse lore scattered around the world and the return to the spot of your death thing. I'm probably just being a jerk, but neither of those are introduced by dark souls. I can't remember the game(s) but a lot of older dungeon crawlers use the return to the spot of your death mechanic and the lore thing isn't especially unique (zelda 1 comes to mind, as does any game with flavor text laying around the world).

I do like the shared exp/magic mechanic in hollow knight. I just about never used magic in hollow knight because it felt so punishing to have to dip into my pool of resources. the game is pretty punishing about death because save points are painfully far apart so I played pretty conservatively.

I don't think it was very hard though which seems to be a major point of comparison. I don't think I died on any boss more than 2 or 3 times with the exception of one of the first ones (I couldn't refer to a boss by name if I wanted to).

I really like playing as Toad. Luigi for big jumping levels but Toad otherwise. f Mario. Princess is obviously the best but I don't like her float.

eh, I think when you get beat like the Raptors did last year, you deserve some skepticism. I'm tired of the angle that no one believes in the Raptors after they've flamed out like 4 years in a row in the playoffs.

it's tricky - they would have screwed themselves if they had any interest in maintaining a decent cap figure. since they don't, they were able to extend their contracts out a couple of years and make some pretty nice improvements to their team.

I've been kinda down on Boston ever since Tatum started hitting the rookie wall. I also feel like Kyrie is due for a 4 week injury - he always had those in Cleveland. hopefully not of course.

if I had to pick a conference winner - and I would have said this before today's game - I would have them third. I think Toronto is a legit challenge to Cleveland though. we'll see if this new team can win solely by having young blood and an energized Lebron.
