I've been watching them lately and they're neat...just looking to expand outside of this realm a bit and see what other randomizers are out there (classic remixes, not modern rougelikes).

Pokemon is an obvious one, IIRC there's a lot of customization available in what you randomize too.

Guess I should clarify: it's fine if there's a randomizer for LoZ:LBW even though it's only a few years old, but I'm not looking for Binding of Isaac even though it's older.

I want to get into smb3 rando as soon as possible, I missed the chance to sign up for the tournament but I want to get into it since I hear it's way more interesting than when I first saw it. First time I saw it it was just a level order randomizer but now it changes all kinds of stuff. Sounds neat.

Zelda 2 randomizer is every bit as good as the other Zeldas. It even generates its own overworlds - something that to my knowledge no other randomizer out there does like it does.

Link's Awakening randomizer is currently in development and just went into public beta recently. It's the hardest randomizer exploration-wise of the four classic Zeldas, looks really confusing, but it's something I plan to get into.

The randomizers I see run most often besides Zelda are probably Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. I've watched them both and they seem pretty interesting if you're into those games, although old NES RPGs are kind of niche, in their way.

Pokemon randomizer is great and it's kinda one of my big things. All the mainline games can be randomized, too (not sure about S/M?). This was the "original" randomizer back in the day and it's still one of the most robust and easiest to get into.

I haven't seen people run Mega Man 2 randomizer much but I'd tried this one and it's really funny. I don't know if it's something I would *seriously* speedrun, but it's pretty fun to play and has a ton of comedy value.

Super Mario RPG randomizer seems to work pretty well. I don't know a lot about it but I've watched it and it looks good, albeit a bit confusing as to how the stats work and stuff.

I think the SNES FFs all have randomizers but I don't know anything about them yet. I also watched someone play FFT randomizer and it was a fucking trainwreck, looks really hard. FFMQ has a rando too. If you're into that.

Oh, Super Metroid has a randomizer! I think you can do just an item randomizer but I think there's a randomizer that changes some routing stuff too. I don't know anything about it but I have heard people say it's good.

Those are the major ones I know of off the top of my head that I can personally vouch for in some way. There's others out there, many of which may still be in development.

This is the largest and most up to date list of randomizers I am aware of. Many of them are beta and may not be complete or just not work well in general so I can't vouch for all of them, but if something interests you it might be worth looking into!

How would a JRPG randomizer even work? Zelda and the platformers give items, but are FF class based like the Fiesta?

Works like any other randomizer. Enemies appear in random places and have random stats, shops and treasure chests have random items, heroes have random abilities, etc etc... Just think of what things could possibly be shuffled around or adjusted and they probably are.

Also just a funny one to mention: Crypt of the Necrodancer, despite being a modern roguelike, actually has a randomizer that randomizes stuff like enemy health/movement speed and item locations and stuff (item locations are already random but it makes them MORE random by ignoring the rules of where they can normally be and such), and then Necrodancer itself actually incorporated this into its DLC as a mode, making it the only game I know of to have a built-in randomizer

Dragon Quest 1 randomizer can also make its own random world map, but so far I think it's just that and Zelda 2 in that club.

One that Paratroopa didn't already mention that I would say is great is Aria of Sorrow. I think the other GBA/DSvanias are either almost done or already done but I haven't looked at them

Oh I've always loved randomizers - been playing Pokemon Randomizer since 2012, Z1R and Z2R since 2015 - I just don't personally enjoy LTTP because I've never liked speedrunning LTTP very much. It's by far my least favorite of the four classic Zeldas (Z1, Z2, and LA are all top 10 favorite games of all time for me - LTTP doesn't break the top 100) and I've tried to speedrun it before but it isn't for me. I don't really enjoy the base game so I'm not really into the rando either. I have a little bit of low-key disdain for it because it was the first randomizer to get really mainstream popular when I've been trying to make Pokemon/Z1/Z2 a thing for years, but I don't really hate it or anything. I was really enthusiastic about its appearance in GDQ and I'm glad that it's continuing to grow.

I am actually going to commit to learning LTTPR at some point anyway, mainly because I want to be a Zelda Randomizer quaternary player - Z1, Z2, LTTP, and LA, once LA gets out of beta and gets a little bit more of a following. I'm already a top 15 or so dual-threat Z1R and Z2R player and LA is my favorite game of all time (though I have little speedrunning experience in it either) so all I need to do is suck it up and get even a baseline education in LTTP to do all four, which I think would be pretty neat.

If you check out the speedgaming twitch channels, chances are you'll find a match, especially if you check during US Prime Time. There's one right now on SG2, for example.

My match this week was on Thursday. I don't know when my next one will be, because I'll have to coordinate that with my next opponent (Who I won't know until all of this week's matches are done)

I've wanted to check out the MMBN3 randomizer, I don't know what it does

It replaces types of chips with another type (all cannon chips could become recovery 80, etc), viruses are replaced with another species of the same level (all Mettaur 2 could become Boomer 2), HP, damage, chipcodes, and chip and virus elements can be randomized to a customizable extent. Some other stuff but those are the main things.

It's weird because it often makes the beginning of the game super hard but the difficulty sharply decreases after around the first boss. My tutorial battle I had to fight ???s, the last enemy introduced in the game, and they stuck around forever while I had weird chips. But you'll eventually find that a common virus drops an outstanding chip, and as you've already fought some of the toughest virii you're good to go.

You can still get fucked by RNG though. In my first Flashman battle he has 2300 HP. I had to deal the last 700 damage using my megabuster =/

It was meant to be a quick interim thing between the Fall tournament that ended back in December and the Spring (and NMG/Non-Randomized) tournament starting in March-ish. The sheer number of signups weren't expected (And the bracket was expanded from 4 to 8 after the numbers became crazy), and the next tournament will have a more reasonable format.
