Austin credits the heel turn to his eventual departure. Austin as a face at the start of the Invasion means he takes a more active hand in it... a lot could change there.

It's all hypothetical, of course, but I think that you could run with Austin for two or three more years at his level of success, quite honestly.

I think it gets lost in the shuffle, also, that quantifiably, Austin at his peak was bigger than Hogan at his peak. Hogan drew more over a longer period of time, but the true lightning in a bottle was Austin, who was the biggest merch mover outside of South Park in the era where that revenue stream was the strongest. And Austin repeatedly got WWF newer contract deals - Austin's very existence is what started TV as the profit center in wrestling, not to mention turning WWF into the publicly traded company it is today. In the nearly ten years where Hogan is at the top, he certainly has a few clear moments where he pulls in a larger number of viewers on network television, but that can also be attributed to Andre's presence as well. Austin was a consistent market-defining worker, and it really can't be ignored that, if anyone brought people to wrestling in a measurable way - it was Austin. With him, there was a huge trend upward. When he left, the downward trend never leveled off. Ever.

Just want to comment that this thread finally got me to pick up Breaking Bad. I had stopped watching it after Season 3 years ago because the pacing and style sort of lagged for me, but I'm glad that your excitement for the show got me back in the mood to give it another shot, because I'm enjoying Season 4 more than I ever did the earlier seasons.

You care a hell of a lot about their opinions for someone who espouses openly that you don't. There are some cool people on Discord, there are some shitty ones. A little bit of both columns can be found in this thread, as well as those who aren't Discord users, but the common denominator here is that you constantly refuse to take L's and instead play the victim, and it ticks everyone off. If you want the V-Card, you can have it, but it doesn't magically turn people into your allies. You spent years using politics as an identity to promote your own arrogant superiority on the board, and when you get pushback on it, you don't get to claim that you're a Hooked on Phonics drop-out who can't do the cursory work of knowing what the hell a topic is about. This board has been cultivated to pounce on people who step out of line. For years. And you were one of the ones to cultivate it. If you choose not to read a post and make a blind reply, you're going to reap what you've sewn. And not just in this thread, but for the nearly two decades you have fostered this sort of intensely petty argumentation based not in unity but perceived intellectual superiority.

That picture reminds me of a story done right, honestly. Mox's tit for tat mentality led to a very interesting chapter in the build toward Jericho/Mox. Emotionally charged, consistently entertaining... this Seth/Rey thing is the opposite.

My lack of interest in this type of game at the moment definitely impacted my stance when the first topics were coming out, so I do have to apologize for whatever wonkiness of was saying in those. I don't think I ever got too extreme, but still.

There's always the issues at Naughty Dog's working environment and conditions, too, of course....which is hard for me to ignore as well, but still. Tron Legacy had some beautiful music and great visuals. Not sure what kind of role they'll push Leto into here. I've been curious about his Morbius since it was announced, but I'd expect a Tron movie to have more of an everyman in the lead, and Leto doesn't strike me as an everyman.

I'm bored talking about Josh Brolin. We've spent too long talking about Josh Brolin like he invented the character of Thanos. The actual man behind the myth, the legend? That's my boy Jimmy Starlin, who put together the entire universe of the Marvel Cosmic. And whether it be Adam o' the Warlocks, or the Infinity Trilogy, or something featuring Quasar that makes slightly more sense than normal, Starlin defined the role of Marvel's resident Darkseid rip-off. And believe you me, Thanos is a Darkseid rip-off. Probably one of the greatest aspects to Thanos' character ever presented never happened in the comics - In Earth X, it was revealed that Thanos' unique appearance (at least in comparison to his race of Titan residents that spawned his bloodline) was actually the result of Skrull breeding in his family line. I always thought this was such a perfect change. The Skrulls have loyalty to nothing, and Thanos is anything but loyal to Mentor, Starfox and the rest of that brood. Furthermore, Thanos is adaptive and cagey in a way that Skrulls are and many other races in Marvel are not. It was such a brilliant move by the entire creative team on the Earth X trilogy that it's a shame that that really never got play in the Marvel Universe proper. In any event, Thanos is the center of the Infinity Trilogy in the 80s and 90s at Marvel, and that trilogy is phenomenally good. Go read it.
