TopicI wish folks realized how "From the river to the sea" feels to Jews
hitokoriX
05/01/24 1:32:43 PM
#61
Having been in protests with people of all faiths and background, including Jewish people, I know exactly what the phrase does and does not mean. You don't get to control the speech of others. So I'll say this:

From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free.

And if that makes you uncomfortable:

From the Sea to the River, Palestine will live forever.

Yeah, it depends on what you want and how you do it. Personally, I want kids. I see no reason to hide that from anyone if they ask.

As a quick side note -- maybe I'm weird, but I often get to know people before we go on a first date. My first dates are just us having fun.

No, but if youre willing to overlook - lets be honest, whitewash - Irans repeated violations of international law and abysmal human rights record because Israel Bad, then you definitely get a sideeye from me.

When did anybody do that? This is a very disingenuous reading of what I said. Nobody is cheering because they think Iran is awesome. They are cheering for Israel getting some kind of consequence, particularly given the contextual irony of the phrase "Israel has the right to defend itself".

Also you do recognize that criticism/dislike of the state of Israel is not antisemitic, right?

If youre cheering on Iran, you are not a progressive. Youre an anti-Semite.

Here -- I'll help you understand with something I said earlier!

People actively despise the state of Israel for their repeated violation of international law with seemingly no consequences. One major line is "Israel has the right to defend itself". Well if Israel does -- so does Iran. Also lets not walk out that tired "If you hate Israel you hate Jews" rhetoric because its demonstrably false.

Or that Iran is the #1 proponent of the sanctity of embassies and consulates.
No, divert your lying eyes from the fact they had a clown car of Islamic Revolutionary Guard members in a "civilian" building near the border with Israel!
Just remember it was still a consulate building on paper, no matter what it was being used for in reality, and that Iran values the sanctity of consulates and embassies more than any other nation in the history of Earth!
They would NEVER attack one themselves as long as you ignore history before 1981

Most Israel supporters think history started on Oct 7th 2023 -- so this is cool to see. Did the US do anything to Iran back in the day that might have backfired?

It is also true that directorial intent does not always translate to what the audience takes from it. Step away from American Psycho and take any number of other movies. You can view films through a number of different lenses. I guess thats one of the cool things about art, what you meant isn't always what a piece is taken for.

Watching Babylon 5 and I see the Centauri/Narn as Israel and Palestine -- some may not take it that way, and it may not have been intended to be that way

IMO if you say something like "I don't find black women attractive" I don't think you could possibly mean that except in a racist way. The term "black women" encompasses so many skin tones, sizes, regions, etc. And you just dislike all of them?

Ima be real. I love me a chick from the middle east/north africa/korea/japan/pacific islands. That doesn't mean I don't find other chicks attractive. And that also doesn't mean that I automatically find women from those places attractive. I think if you spend some time -- you'll find something you like from anywhere in the world.

Now this is just a me thing, but working out takes longer than an hour. Its 15 mins there, 15 back. About 40 minutes cardio and then like 30-40 lifting.
