There's also Undertale where you literally get the best ending by going completely pacifist.

I like games where you can talk your way through encounters rather than always defaulting to combat.

Planescape: Torment has something like 6 fights in the entire game that you flat out have to do.

if they can make it fun, yes. If the game is largely built around combat, and all youre doing is skipping the combat, then its kind of just a pointless option.

Not sure how much it counts, but these days whenever I play Subnautica I almost always do a vegetarian playthrough. Makes the game a little more challenging, as you have to be more resourceful and proactive when it comes to foraging.
The only times I do kill a creature is if I accidentally bump into them with a vehicle.

I like it when they actually give you good options for it. I don't like it when it hampers you and locks you out of using really cool abilities. Deus Ex and MGS (especially V) do it the best imo.

yes and no

i like the challenge of having to avoid killing, like in hitman, or metal gear

i DISLIKE when games dont balance it right (imo)

like take dishonored. phenomenal game. very creative and fun to play. i will never know what is like to kill in it, because story and future mechanics are tied to killing

like, it's not "canon", and it "punishes" you later. im not into that. when its done like that, it feels obligatory, yk?

Admittedly, but damn is the game easier when you can just kill people and their bodies disappear.

Yeah, if they put it in, they obviously wanted you to use it. I also like when the enemy has some useful device or item, and you can either destroy it to immediately beat the mission, or do some extra work to take it for yourself.

I like it when it works with the narrative. For example in Watch Dogs 1 and 2 they give you all kinds of weapons to use but IMO those games are at their best when you try your hardest to get through and not kill anyone

I enjoy having a choice for most enemies, like I never kill the rats in Tomb Raider, they're just chilling in the cistern, swimming around, have the time of their life!
I'm not gonna be that guy and crash their party and mass murder them, hell nah, I'm jumping in and having a swim with them, good times, worst case scenario I get some love bites, it's all good, I ain't even mad.

Pierre, the gorillas and the crocodiles had it long time coming though. They're getting gunned down on sight.

Talk-no-jutsu gets the most xp and the best wrist rewards in most games.

Also, I just find I can't really be an asshole in those games, even when it's consequence-free. Might take the sarcastic good option, though, sometimes.

So, talking is always my best option.

In Shadowrun: Hong Kong, there are many fights you can resolve by just talking it out depending on your charisma level & chosen etiquettes.

The last boss in the DLC can also be defeated without killing anyone if you fulfill several requirements. (Her contractor has decided to double-cross her after the job is done and you got the deeds on that)

Yes, so long as it's something interesting. A simple dice roll to avoid playing the game? That's no good. Offering an entirely new way of playing the game with different rewards and even story? That's great.
